Are your family members also your friends?

My grandmother was my best friend when I was a kid. Even though she didn't live near me, we talked on the phone everyday and I would visit with her for a few weeks every summer. It was very hard on me when she died. I fought a lot with my sisters when we were younger. Now that we are all older we get along great and love spending time together. I would have to say that my two sisters are some of my best friends. Anyone else friends with their family?

My daughter (23) is my best friend. We talk daily and have made the transistion from mother/daughter to good friends. Of course, there are times where we have to revert to the roles. She is so refreshing and thoughtful. We discuss her work and her horses. She has a 1 year old child and it is great to hear how your days are going. I also talk to my mother and 3 brothers at least twice a week. We are an amazingly close family and always have things to share.

That's really nice that you are so close with your mother. I think I am fairly close with my mother, but not as much as I used to be. As I've grown up our views on so many things differed that it's gotten hard to talk to her about everything that I'd like to talk with her about.

I do not share the kind of friendship with my mother as I do with my daughter but it is still close. It was difficult for mom to accept that I didn't always have to agree with her. Finally I told her that I respected her and her opinions but that since I was grown up (some) I had my own. We agreed to disagree on subjects without the hurt feelings. I have to admit my mom is fairly forward thinking as she has raised 4 kids without our dad. Now that she is older and alone, I am glad that she is only a phone call away and treasure the time we have. A close battle with cancer recently drew us closer.

i hope they are, but they are not, there is a generation gap between us and i can never cross the gap, i think i'll put up with it and understand what they are thinking about. what i can i do now is to follow their orders and listen to their advice.
