Eating habits |
| |
| Does anyone have a golden retiever (or any other pet for that matter)that has a bad habit of going to far with his chewing habits? Most animals chew things, but how many have an animal that swallows everything he chews including socks or stockings (which he swallows whole),dish towels, any kind of food and even jalapeno peppers which are his favorite. Is this normal? | | | | | |

| | Thanks for your response. If my wife is missing a stocking, we can usually find it in the back yard where he passed it. One of these days, I am afraid he's going to eat something that he will not be able to pass. | | | |

| | My Labrador cross loves eating things. I used to put her biscuits in a plasic bag under my bed so she wouldn't find them, but she did find them and she ate the plastic bag. She had to go to the vets to get it taken out of her stomach. It was very small so she survived! When she was just a pup I remember I had been reading a book and I left it on the couch to go and cook dinner and when I got back I found my book on the floor and I saw her over in the corner with a half-chewed bookmark in her mouth. She had eaten some of it so I called my next door neighbor who is an expert on dogs and she said that my dog would be fine. Dogs often eat things that they shouldn't. With most things they'll be fine but some things could kill your dog! | | | | | | |

| | Thanks terryfaescotland, I'm glad not the only one with a dog with this habit. Maybe we could share notes on what our dogs have eaten. That might be fun. How about this; My dog has eaten an entire rubber ball. Can you top that one? | | | |

| | I can top the odd eaten objects list. My Golden, Alex, got hold of a window candle at Christmas. He ate the entire cord, left the candle and the plug. We had to feed him mashed potatoes with gravy and cotton balls for a week. He also at candles, soap, a door jamb, 2 window sills, half a step, and an 1899 copy of Heidi. The book was on a high mantle, behind a wood stove. Still can't figure out how he got that down. Anyway, no matter how many toys I bought him, he didn't stop until I got a second Golden to keep him company. | | | | | | |

| | Thank you mycandlefarm. I feel a lot better about my golden now. Why isn't he dead after eating that cord? My wife has been telling me that we should get another dog to keep "Sonny" from being so bored. I guess maybe I should listen to her. But I just don't feel like going through all that training again. | | | |
