Well I just looked at TSN and you guys sigened rafalski and niedermayer might be gone so u guys might look at that...wat bout TORONTO, i wanna c sometin!! were not gonna get drury so ryan smyth is our only option

It's not necessarily because of the salary cap. I mean, they just replaced him with Brian Rafalski from the Devils for reportedly $30 million. The Ducks were looking for someone anyways cause it looks like Scott Neidermeyer is leaning towards retirement. It's a small market for defensemen I think, at least elite blue liners. We'll see. It's a tough loss for you, but it's early in free agency and Rafalski is a great signing.

To me it looks like it was a mutal thing as the wings seem to be goin into a rebuilding phase and trying to get room to get younger talent or a marquee player now the cap is $50 million so who knows.

I was really hoping that Schneider would stay, but the signing of Rafalski took some of the sting out of Schneider leaving. The nice thing about Rafalski is that they were able to sign him to a longer contract.

Bertuzzi is gone now as well, also to the Ducks. I'm tired of losing to the Ducks darn it!;-)

The only names that I've heard floating around that the Wings are interested are ex-Wings. I haven't listened to the local radio station much, so I'm going on the rumor sites. Shanahan is the big one...the one that I would love to see return...but he is supposedly happy in New York (if they can afford to keep him). There is a rumor about Fedorov (his contract would have to be bought out first). Slava Kozlov and McCarty are the other ex-Wing rumors.

Smyth was supposed to be a sure thing to come to Detroit, but he somehow ended up in Colorado.

The Wings really need a scorer and some toughness. And they must sign Hasek. Fortunately, the central division got considerably weaker last week when Nashville traded away a couple of their skaters plus their goaltender, so the Wings should still easily win the Central.
