Arts and Life: A Debate

To my opinion there is no such thing is 'arts for the arts sake'. Arts and life is conneceted, they can not be with out the other one exsisting.
There could be an illusion to what is life and what is art, and if the art is the real life or the life is the real art.
But art and life is a couple.
And i do have to treat them like that.
Ofcourse that the artits and the art work should be allowed to be expressed, just as any media expression.
We are democratic, and each one of us sees life differently, and have different opinions that should be heard.
Wow this is a big issue, that i have been talking about most of my life.

I think some Plato's commentaries were against art, what is an inhumane feeling I can't understand. For example, he has forbidden some rithms and music developping (i.e. syncopations) because he thought they wake up some special feelings in persons...

I totally disagree with any limitation of the expression. I think art is a need of human being like food or any other.

As a painter I think that all arts are somehow for life's sake(although I am not sure exactly what you mean by that). We express art as a means of a search and discovery of ourselves, the environment, people, and the world around us. We express it for the sake of its beauty. We express art to convey an important message, either to ourselves or to others. We express art as an exploration of that which is beyond the senses, it is one of many ways of reaching towards the unknown. Sometimes it has an element of wanting to manifest something in ones life. Perhaps there also is a deeper part of our being that wishes to be heard, seen and understood through, and by the conscious surface mind. Art is the language of the soul, and it is the voice of our deeper spirit.

Good question. When painter is all in his work then can talk about the art. Here in Latvia (i am happy for it) start to discover young painters who live in their art and don't work another work. But in nowadays it is problem - most of situations artists does another work and he has no more time for art. Then he tries do some pictures but specialists fast see where is made big work and where not. I don't continue here story about art market because it is another discussion.
