That song is actually called "Woodstock". It was written and first recorded by Jomi Mitchell. She wanted to play at Woodstock but she couldn't make it, so she wrote a song about it instead.
The most famous version of the song was done by a band called Matthews Southern Comfort, that's probably the version you know. Crosby, Stills, Nash and Young also recorded it and it was on their 1971 album Deja Vu, their version was more "rocking". Like I said, it's probably Matthews Southern Comforts version that you've heard, because that's the version that was in the charts and it gets played on the radio more than the other versions.
