I love greek food. Haven't found a great place here in Austin yet, though. I grew up in Houston and there is a pretty big Greek Orthodox population there. The churches do lots of fairs and bazaars to raise charity money. They have the BEST spanakopita at those fairs, I swear. I also love hot gyros on fresh bread. With that cucumber and yogurt, yum! Another favorite of mine is baklava. All that honey and butter and sticky nuts.... I'm getting hungry!

Omg, where do I start??? Lol I absolutelu LOVE Greek food. My favourites would be lamb gyros, moussaka, calamari (nobody cooks squid like the Greeks!), char grilled octopus, prawn or mussel saganaki, and of course the nibblies like, fetta, olives, dolmades, etc. And baklava. Yum. Lol the best thing I ate in Greece, however, was swordfish. I had never had it before, or since. On Corfu, I had it just as a *steak* type cut, cooked to perfection at the Pelargos Taverna by Dimitri, and served with a simple salad and a wedge of lemon...nothing else was needed! Dimitri informed us that we would never taste swordfish quite like those served up in Corfu, as they are caught in that body of water between Corfu and Albania, and have a sweetness like no other. I tried it again on Santorini, after watching the sunset at Oia. This time I had it as a souvlaki. It was divine, but admittedly, not as good as Dimitri's! I've never had swordfish since, it's a treat I'll save for my next visit :)
