I didn't get a chance to go see dad yet because yesterday and today hubby got off work too late to make it up there before visiting hours were over. But I talked to mom last night and dad is finally out of ICU and in a private room. He ate a lot more yesterday than before, but he kinda did himself in with what he picked out. He asked for spaghetti, and salad with tomatoes and he had eaten his dinner before the new shift nurse had come in to look at the chart. Between the spaghetti sauce and the tomatoes, the silly goof ended up with a whopper of a case of heartburn. Of course mom gave him an earful about it, but since he's back to his stubborn smartalecky self, he didn't listen to her. He's griping about wanting to go home, and now the cigarette fits have started as well. Thankfully he's on the third floor so he can't cheat and crawl out the window! LOL. There's a possibility that he might come home Monday, but we don't know for sure. As soon as I find out I will let you all know. Thanks once again for the prayers and support. You've all been awesome in helping me get through all of this. Lots of love and hugs to you my dear friends.

lmao @ the nicotine fits. hmmmmm..maybe dad should stay in the hosptial until he no longer craves a cigg but then, maybe that's not such a good idea being he's recovered enough to drive the nurses to enroll themeselves in a mental institution. lol Anyways, very happy to hear about dad recovering so nicely even thou he did himself in with the heartburn. Hopefully, this will be a one-time occurance so as not to give e1 such a scare again. Thanks for the update, Kat. Proves that the power of prayer and believing in it works. Also helps when the patient is surrounded by competent doctors/nurses. :-)

What's even better is that he's coming home today. He made such an improvement that the nurses and docs are kicking him out. LOL

lol Bet they can't wait for him to leave and are making his discharge papers top priority. Tell him we are all happy to hear he is recovering so nicely and to behave himself.

Sounds like "dad" is a handful..that's funny in a way when you think of it...he gets heartburn because of the food he ate..and probably wasn't really supposed to have it, and I can just imagine the fits he must having for wanting to smoke. That's wonderful news that he might be able to come home Monday...my prayers still are being sent to him

He's home now, and yep....he's being a big handful. He's definitely back to his usual ornery argumentative self. LOL

Sorry hun, I don't know how I missed this update. I'm glad things are still going in the right direction. Have they found the cause of the infection yet?

They actually decided from all of the blood tests that there wasn't an infection. It had something to do with the type of insulin in the pump. Dad should have been using the fast reacting insulin instead of the slow when he started feeling bad. That's all I really know. It's the reason he got so tired and his blood sugar shot up so high. That and he didn't go to the doctor when this all first started happening. Dad's home now, and as soon as I get more info I'll post another update. Thanks hon.

Glad to hear he is improving. Maybe the doctor could prescribe the patch to relieve the withdrawal symptoms. Take him lots of lollipops!

Believe me, he has lots of that kind of stuff at home. Most of it's sugar free, but there's some regular candy too for his blood sugar if it drops.
