Have you ever been BULLIED on ebay?  email this discussion to a friend?

pamthegypsy (53)   ranked 9,231 out of 26,919 in people 5 years ago

My very first experience on ebay was brutal! I paid immediatly with paypal and then recieved an email from the seller that had just a number. I replied apologising that I was new and had no idea what the number was. I was answered in a huge font and bold letters that said "UPS TRACKING #"!!!
I (not knowing any better and being an honest sort) left a neutral feedback stating that I didn't deserve to be screamed at for being new.
The seller turned around and hit me with a negative feedback used my real name instead of my screen name, and said I needed to grow up! Then a week later wanted mutual withdrawal!!! Since that wasn't going to make the -1 he slapped me with go away, I refused. I also did a bit of looking and found he had done the same to 6 others that gave him a neut feedback.
Yesterday I found one that refused to ship to my state. Today I found one that boldly states in the listing that anyone with less than a 10 rating will be refused if they win the bid, and the item will be relisted! Can they do that??? Obviously they can. I have dealt with 2 or 3 others that were the nicest people, but I find that I'm seriously thinking about looking for another place to sell. I don't scare easy, but ebay has me walking on eggs.
Can anyone help me understand how I'm supposed to act on this site? Why so many mean angry people? This has me very upset... What's worse is that ebay seems to think it's great that bullies can do these things. They feel the feedback idea is fair! No, a neutral for a neutral would have been fair. Now I feel that I have to lie even if I get a box of crap so I don't get my little bitty rating destroyed again, as it is I can't even bid on some because my rating is still too low.... Help me....

Sorry to hear that. I've never been bullied on ebay before and have not experienced such problems. Maybe you can contact ebay directly about this and see what happens.

Some just are that way because they are. There's really no explaination I can give on that. I don't think there would be a problem with you selling stuff on ebay.

Hope I was able to suggest something because that's all I could possibly think of.

pamthegypsy (53)   ranked 9,231 out of 26,919 in people  5 years ago

I did contact ebay and they feel the feedback system is fair. They DID show me how to reply though and that did help some. Blogging about it there made me feel better too. But none of it helped my rating. I'm a little scared to try to sell anything though because if anyone looks at my feedback they'll see 3 and the very first is a big red minus.
Thnx 4 trying 2 help. That alone helps.

I am sorry you have run into a bad seed. I have always had pretty good dealings with everyone there. I only have about 50 on my feedback though.
I have even had something crushed in shipment. Luckily I had something to replace it. The lady shipped it back to me and I made sure to take care of everything. I ended up losing a little money but at least my rating is good still. And it was only one time.
I have seen people before say less then 10 don't bid. I think it has to do with people starting an account to make false bids and waste the sellers time.
I think a nuetral for a nuetral would have been fair in your case.
Sorry I don't have any advice, other then just try to bid and possibly say if anyone has an issue with your percent to write you and you will explain.
Good luck!

pamthegypsy (53)   ranked 9,231 out of 26,919 in people  5 years ago

Thank you. I'm more worried about trying to sell with such a low rating... Well, I guess all I can do is try, that's the only way to get that rating up.
(((Oh. BTW...I saw your question about coffee or tea. Here's something I KNOW works. Raspberry leaf tea. Drink 1 cup a day and when it's time to go to the hospital, drink a very strong cup. My 1st baby took 26 hours without it, and my second only 4 hours with!)))

I wish all the sellers were as easy to get along with as you.

I've been selling on ebay for years, but I was new once myself. I dealt with a seller who refused to answer my e-mails regarding shipping. I never heard from him about the item I wanted shipped and he not only left me negative feedback, but he used e-mail to harrass me which is against the law. I filed complaints with Ebay. All I can say is that I'm still an Ebayer in good standing, while he was booted off long ago.
Ebay need to know what's happening. Contact them about filing a complaint against this Ebayer. Of course, when you are bidding on a item, always ask questions if you aren't sure. A sane Ebayer will gladly answer you back because we want our customers to be happy. This person is clearly not same and needs to be reprimanded by Ebay in order to learn their lesson.
Good Luck!

pamthegypsy (53)   ranked 9,231 out of 26,919 in people  5 years ago

Thank you! I did, but other than a reply there wasn't much I could do, and it was a month before that new system came to be. I know he will keep doing the same to others and it will eventually catch up to him. Just over the weekend I have met 3 sellers that I just love, that added to the people here have made me feel much better.
I adore mylot for the people here I could care less if they pay me, the happiness it brings finding that there are more good people in the world than bad is priceless!

I have never been bullied on eBay, yet. I am also a seller, and I treat everyone that buys from me the way I want to be treated. I have a blog on eBay, and I've read other sellers' and buyers' blogs. I've seen many complaints about buyers being bullied, and it seems like it's usually the big Powersellers who have the worst customer service. And there are many sellers who do give retalitory feedback. Sadly, there have been many complaints to eBay about the feedback system, especially now with the 5 star ratings, where the buyers can now rate the sellers on shipping, and item description, etc.

A good idea is to always contact the seller if you have any problems or concerns first, before leaving the feedback. Your seller may have been upset because maybe he didn't think that he was "yelling" at you. Some people only type in caps.

Also, a mutual feedback will take away the negative rating, but the comment will still be left.

Good Luck to you. Hopefully, you won't have any more bad experiences.

pamthegypsy (53)   ranked 9,231 out of 26,919 in people  5 years ago

You're right about the power sellers, I've gotten one word answers to emails and felt like a pest, but better a pest than a bad deal. Even as a buyer I have to agree about the rating on shipping prices. I did ask one why so high and she explained very nicely that it wasn't carved in stone but that she was just being careful.
I know some people insist on all caps, which is shouting, but the first msg was normal, the second took some effort in that it wasn't just caps it was a 20 font in bold! And it's just a shame that it's the first one there. I think that ebay could at least make it so that retaliatory feedback isn't possible. I also think the star rating needs to apply to both buyer and seller.
I'm going very slow at getting used to the whole ebay thing. You and everyone here on mylot have helped more than you will ever know. That's the GOOD thing that happened from the experience, I learned very early to be careful... and I've met many more nice people than I would have otherwise. Thank you so much.

Contact ebay again and tell them that your real name was left in the feedback, that is grounds for them to remove it...you might have to try a couple times because ebays no help desk sometimes doesn't take the time to actually read the complaint.
Until then go to you neg feedback and leave a followup to explain the negative and how the seller treated you.

Is you id only for buying on ebay, if it is then the negative won't hurt you, most sellers aren't going to check you history and if they do they will see that it was left by the seller as retaliation for the neutral.
It hurts him more than you.

About not shipping to your state, are you in Hawaii or Alaska?
It seems some people on ebay don't realize those are actually part of the US or maybe you are in the same state and they don't want to have to collect sales tax.

virtuexru (4)  5 years ago

Yes I have. I got jacked for about 400$. Some guy tried to sell a iPod and he never mailed it. Took the money through PayPal and ran. Gone, PayPal didn't do a thing!

brattaxi (47)  5 years ago

Did you pay with a credit card thru Paypal?
If you did do a chargeback thru your credit card company, if not you can file mail fraud charges against the seller and also file a police report in his town.

pamthegypsy (53)   ranked 9,231 out of 26,919 in people  5 years ago

I did tell them about my name, and they said all I could do was reply. I think the problem is that my name is the same here as there and he just guessed pamthegypsy was a Pamela. The not shipping to my state does seem to be a tax thing. I'm glad I noticed it. Something else I learned today! I'm really considering a different name for selling, maybe a company name or something of the sort. Can I do that?

brattaxi (47)  5 years ago

Yeah its always best to have 1 id for selling and 1 id for buying, that way a bad seller can't ruin YOUR selling reputation with bad feedback.

I would go ahead and contact ebay again about your name being in feedback, you might get someone that actually knows the feedback rules...lol
But if not just give a calm factual reply so people can see for themselves that it was an undeserved negative.

pamthegypsy (53)   ranked 9,231 out of 26,919 in people  5 years ago

Thank you, I'm going to do that. It really irritates me to be called Pamela. Maybe I'm a little too feminist for my own good sometimes, but this jackass has really gone too far.
I can take my mind off it by trying to think of a new screen name to sell with!!! You have helped alot. Thank U again!

if a seller doesn't want to sell ot you he can cancel the bid, and block you from bidding on his auctions, but if the item sells to you and he doesn't cancel your bid without an explination, they are supposed to sell it to you.

Many say you need to contact them for apporval of bidding.

But many power sellers are just that on a power trip because they are power sellers, and maybe because they have been taken advantage of by new users.....

I have to say I am sorry that this has happened to you.

Mooch

pamthegypsy (53)   ranked 9,231 out of 26,919 in people  5 years ago

Well, that's good to know that if someone screws a seller that they can block that person...BUT, to be prejudice against all newbies is really wrong. Everyone is new at some time. I can't figure out what they think I'll do. As soon as I win a bid I hit the paypal button and pay! I bid because I want the item... I am very grateful to the seller that wasn't at all worried and thanks to him I have 2 good feedbacks.
As far as asking a seller for permission, well I'm sure someone better will buy their item. I don't feel I've done anything to warrant being treated as untrustworthy. It feels like I'm begging someone to buy something from them, I just can't do it. And it doesn't give the new person a very good impression. But, I also have to look at it all in the context of ebay and even mylot. On ebay you can't have a Dutch auction until you meet certain criteria...or pay $5.00. And even here you have to have a certain number to cut and paste. ??? Makes no sense to me.
I would say that if I ever do get started selling and eventually get to that lofty place where the "power sellers" reside, I would hope that I will have the sense to request that ebay not put that little avatar anywhere near my name. I would never want to be a member of that club.
Thanks for answering and listening!

Really? Wow, that's scary,.I've only bought 2 things on ebay, one of them I haven't received,.i'm waiting for the item till this friday or i have to open a dispute, which i dont know how,..

pamthegypsy (53)   ranked 9,231 out of 26,919 in people  5 years ago

Dissy, (how adorable!) Have you been in contact with the seller? If the pkg is being sent parcel post, it can take a while, they're slow, have to justify the postal rate increase by reminding us that we need them. I just had one take a full week.
I don't know how either but maybe someone will read this and tell us! Did you pay with paypal?

myLot reputation of 97/100. ucancallmedissy (2480)   ranked 142 out of 26,919 in people  5 years ago

Well thank u :)
Yes I paid with PayPal, and next friday it will be 3 weeks,,..the last item i bought got to my home by a week, so I don't know why this one take so long to arrive. I've communicated with the seller, and he asked to wait till next friday.

I'm so sorry that you had this bad experience on E-bay. It is a shame that there are a few bad apples out there. I wish I could give you some advice but I'm fairly new to E-bay myself. I have sold a few things and still have several things listed but I have only won 2 items and thankfully the sellers I have dealt with have been extremely nice. I only have a feedback score of 2 right now if that tells you how new I am on there LOL.

I certainly hope that your future dealings on E-Bay are much better and you don't have to deal with anyone else like this again.

SheliaLee

pamthegypsy (53)   ranked 9,231 out of 26,919 in people  5 years ago

Hey, you're doing better than me... But welcome to the ebay newbie club! Tell me do you feel the way I do about the way new people are treated by some sellers? (read 2 above this I think) Maybe it's a down south thing but I just can't be mean to someone that's new and doesn't understand everything. It makes me want to help the poor dears, not tell them they can't bid. It just seems plain to me that if I help someone, then they help the next person remembering how they were helped, well then that good feeling I got from helping a stranger could live forever!

myLot reputation of 96/100. SheliaLee (1347)   ranked 4,995 out of 26,919 in people  5 years ago

I feel the same way that you do. Everybody has to learn and should not be treated ugly or looked down on because they are just starting out on E-Bay or anything else for that matter. I try to treat people the way that I want to be treated myself. If someone asks me a question about one of the products that I am selling I answer them as quickly and as nicely as I can. I wouldn't blame someone for not wanting to do business with a seller who talks ugly or hateful to them. I know I wouldn't give them any business.

I certainly hope things go much better for you in the future and that your feedback score continues to grow higher and higher. :)
SheliaLee

myLot reputation of 96/100. SheliaLee (1347)   ranked 4,995 out of 26,919 in people  5 years ago

Another thing dear friend, I agree with you also that it shouldn't depend on what the person's feedback score is whether or not to bid on their product. How on earth can anyone's score increase if someone doesn't bid and give them some business? I'm so thankful for my little #2 score but I hope that it doesn't stop people from bidding on my products just because it is still low. If there is something on E-bay that I'm interested in buying I look at there score to see if it is positive. The only way I wouldn't bid on someone's low score is if the feedback that they do have is bad and then it would have to be really bad for me not to give them another chance. Everyone can have a bad day now and then or something happen during shipping that they can have no control over.

I hope I have given you some encouragement dear friend.

Sorry that happened to you. Here are some tips that may be helpful:

Never get upset about your feedback rating. Leave comments when things go bad. Others can read this & compare it with the other auctions you have been involved with. The unreasonable ebayers will stand out like a sore thumb & will be recognized for who they are.

Number 1 rule of ebay (or buying online anywhere): Let the buyer beware. Know who you are dealing with and thoroughly check out what others have said about them in the feedback comments. It's not just about feedback numbers. Sometimes people aren't as honest as you are. Assume they aren't until you have enough information to feel comfortable doing business with them. When in doubt, wait. That item you're looking at will come around again. Usually, at a better price and always with a more reputable seller.

Most of the things that look like unreasonable demands in the terms of a seller's auction are the result of a bad experience & they're trying to keep it from happening again.

Good communication will turn a bad deal into a positive for both of you. Never get emotional about something that happens there. Chances are, it's a misunderstanding and can be resolved. Sometimes not and you have to let it go & move on. One bad feedback does not define you.

If you can't resolve it yourself, ask a friend who is also on ebay to get involved & have them send a message to the seller as a neutral third party. I have done this for others & it works like a charm. I don't know what the ebay rules are about doing that. I just know that it has worked every time. Most people want what you want, which is a positive experience. Don't waste time trying to get ebay involved in resolving issues.

Never leave feedback until the other party leaves it for you. Resolve all issues before leaving it and you will guarantee that it will be positive. I've had auctions go from bad to positive by making repeated contacts, taking the blame and saying something to the effect of, "maybe I'm doing something wrong. I just want to resolve this so we can leave each other positive feedback for a successful auction."

Ebay is a lot of fun, but you have to be careful who you deal with. Good luck!

pamthegypsy (53)   ranked 9,231 out of 26,919 in people  5 years ago

Sir. you know me too well! Now I know where to go to ask my stupid questions, and I have plenty, and a garage FULL of stuff to auction! I was actually thinking of just taking everything to local auctions, used to go to one in Ziegler wanna go see sometime? Maybe pick up a few things to ebay?
I can't believe this is your first post! With your writing ability?!?! I thought for sure you would take to this place right off. To busy scootin' around town ain't ya boy.
Well thanks for the advice, and for jumpin' in here, and learnin me up some about this thing!

All that thunder and lightening and not a drop of rain for my roses, now I have to go out and water them before going to sleep... probably feed some skeeters while I'm out there.
Holler back!

I have never been bullied on ebay but sellers can choose to list that they will not sell to anyone with certain feedback they are just trying to protect themselves from non paying bidders as a seller when you get a non paying bidder you lose money. Luckily when I was new on ebay I got very nice sellers who always cooperated. I am sorry you have had a bad experience with ebay there are some really good sellers on there too!

pamthegypsy (53)   ranked 9,231 out of 26,919 in people  5 years ago

Well that's lovely for the sellers, but it does nothing to protect the new people. In fact the creep that gave me the negative feed back said: Pamela is new to ebay. Pamela needs to grow up! So besides using my real name, he actually stated that it was because this was my first transaction! A neutral feedback should NEVER be answered with a negative. As I said earlier, any seller that refuses to deal with new people will never see business from me. And any seller that I see has left neg FB for a neut FB sits in the same boat. I will never deal with them. My neutral FB didn't impact him at all yet he obviously took great joy in making my 0 a -1. And by doing that made it even more difficult for me to build my rating. I have no problem with a seller refusing to sell to someone with a horrible record, just with bullies and newbie haters. And it seems there's no shortage of them. So I have to say that even when my rating increases, I still won't do business with that sort of person And I still believe that ebay needs to do something about this system. Perhaps they are with the new star rating.
I hope so. I would hate to have to feel forced to give a pos FB to someone that didn't deserve it just to save myself. Caveat Emptor!
