The fox is a member of the canid or (Canidae) family. They are Carnivora or are carnivores (meat eaters) and have been known to eat fruits. It is interesting to note that foxes can not breed with other dogs or other Canid species. Foxes can be scared of people but will not fear them unless their is a reason. They live near humans but do not try to pet them. They are highly susceptible to rabies. I have seen some foxes where I live but they don't eat from my hands.

Hi ajkmom! That is some really great information you provided. I had no idea that foxxes could not breed with regular dogs. That explains why I've never seen that breed before. I know that wolves and dogs are known to cross-breed at times. I guess I just figured that all canines were the same. Who knew! I will keep that in mind about the rabies. We have a little girl, and I wouldn't want her to be exposed to something like that.

Thats cool; you should tame it! It would be very neat to have a pet fox, and I suppose they could be trained as easily as a dog, since they have a reputation for being clever.
It might be much easier to tame though, if you could find a baby fox... An adult may have gotten a fear of humans to much ingrained into it's nature and go berserk when caught.
Wouldn't it be neat, though, to have friends over, and for them to see little Russel (That's a fine name for a fox) go by and for them to say was that a FOX?
