Why do people believe that black people don't get sun burn?

I think alot of people don't believe (african american) people don't get sun burned because 9 times out of ten its not evident it doesn't show but trust me I use sun Block too. I was told as a little girl My people have alot of melon in their skin in which does protect them from the sun... if you go back alittle to where people evolved from it may make a little more sense. African american's or Africans where born in high climates of heat... therefore they had to adapt to such climates and the end result there skin darker and hair coarser than most verses those who where born in colder climates skin tend to be lighter and tiner,such as the europeans and etc. if you notice most islanders skin is also dark...

LOL ppl believe things like that because they are uneducated and rather than actually LEARNING they make stupid assumptions ;-) I am black and I DO burn....its rare for me and it takes a lot more for me to burn than a pale person but yes of course it happens....

I know a few black people, and I've seen them with sunburns and tans. I think perhaps people think that since their skin is already dark, the melanin in the skin will protect them, instead of only lengthening the time they can stay in the sun.

I know black people get sunburnt. I have had friends who were black and they told me they were sunburnt. I think the reason that people think this is because they don't see the red on their skin. I also believe dogs get sunburnt. Some people may not believe this, but I do because I have a dog and she gets in the pool with me and she gets sunburnt and is hot for days.
