I did not know cooking at all. When suddenly both my sisters got married immediately, since I did not have mother who passed away long back, I had to enter the kitchen. I knew only sambar, rasam to mix in white rice and one vegetable side dish. Poor my father and younger sister ate that only for one month and then I learnt one by one. How about you? When did you start cooking? Was there any necessity or on your own you made it? Can we know your experiences please?

i really don't know when i started to cook. when we were growing up our favorite place to hang out in the house was the kitchen. coming from school the first place we go is the kitchen to check what is for snacks and of course for dinner. to a point that our cook will ask us when we leave for school in the morning what we want to eat for dinner just so we will not bother her in the kitchen. but to no avail the kitchen was still the hang out.
it could have been the environment and my passion for eating that influenced to cook.

So the interest for cooking started way back in your childhood itself.

When I was 5 years old, while my parents were still sleeping, I would pull a chair up to the stove and make French toast. I was fascinated with cooking. My family is so surprised I did not become a chef.

That is really great. At 5 years means it is such a tender age. You had the interest of cooking at that age itself. Then you must be a great cook I suppose.

I'm not sure if I rememeber the exact first thing I learned to cook. But my mom taught both my sister and I to cook from an early age. She often let us help out in the kitchen and gave us small jobs like mixing or snapping beans or something. I actually used to love to peel things!
I think the first think I remember making on my own is "Stone soup" it's from a kids book actually. It's basically soup that you throw whatever you have or can find it in ( I think mine was mostly a mixed vegatable soup)...and if you want, you can throw a nice clean rock in it just like in the book. I remember that my soup came out pretty well.

People who say they are not good cooks, their recipes only taste better and who say they are wonderful cooks, I noticed it is not so. I am sure you must be cooking well. Can I come for lunch?

If I remember correctly I started cooking when I was eleven or twelve. My dad taught me how to make pancakes, and I pestered my mom until she taught me how to make macaronies and cheese. Me and my best friend ate that an entire summer!
My parents was very kind and used to let me help out in the kitchen a lot when I was a kid. By the time I was 14 I could easily cook dinner for the entire family.

So your first cooking teacher was your mum. Usually it is so for many. Since I did not have mum, my sister taught me. All of us will improve slowly only. Earlier I knew very few items, now so many. I feel I should have cooked more items for my father, who is no more now.
