Is animal testing necessary?

July 25, 2007 1:25am CST
'The UK government is being taken to court over its duty to cut suffering to lab animals, as figures show another rise in animal tests' (source: http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/sci/tech/6911678.stm). Do you think we should test on animals? Also is it justified that certain animals such as horses, ogs and primates are protected from being tested when mice and rats are used nearly all the time? Surely if we are going to test on animals it is best to use anomals that are most like us so we can be more sure that the results are accurate.

I would like them to stop animal suffering. Animal testing is not necessary. Most people buy only product certified as not testing on animals... I help with animal shelter and I can tell you many stories I have heard from activists including animal liberation front....people who risked their lives to stop animal testing...

I did see this article. Look at this, it is on the same page. http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/sci/tech/5043328.stm I don't want anyone test on apes, they are my friends. They are so smart and so emotional, just thinking about makes me cry.

There are a lot of animals that are smart and intelligent, in fact maybe they all are. I don't think we have any right to put their lives over our own.
