how can we forget 07.07.2007, yes the day when the new seven wonders of the world were honoured. But which is the greatest wonder? well, I will go for Pyramids of Egypt, the greatest and the mysterious architecture, the sign of the faith, the crown of dedication. There is one more fact which may not be known to all. At the time the Pyramids were constructed, it gave employment to approximately 25000 labours which was a boon to them.
Pyramids of Cheops at Giza gives a deserty look but it is very close to river Nile. See image of Section of Pyramids and you will understand the Mysterious Architecture. So this should be the Greatest wonder of the World.

I think the Taj Mahal is the greatest wonder of the world because it has a great history behind it.

Mumtaz and Shah Jehan were married in 1612 A.D had 14 children together. The Empress Mumtaz used to accompany her husband in his military campaigns, and it was in Burhanpur in 1630, that she gave birth to her last child, after which she died. So great was the Shah Jahan's love for his wife Mumtaz, that he ordered the building of the most beautiful mausoleum on Earth for her, The Taj Mahal.

As soon as construction work began in early 1630, sculptors, masons, craftsmen, and calligraphers were called from Persia, Ottoman Empire and Europe to work on construction of the Taj.

The architectural complex of the Taj Mahal comprises of five main elements: the Darwaza or main gateway, the Bageecha or garden, the Masjid or mosque, the Naqqar Khana or rest house, and the Rauza or the Taj Mahal mausoleum. The actual Tomb of Mumtaz is situated inside the Taj. The unique moghal style architecture combines elements & styles of Persian, Central Asian, and Islamic architecture. Most striking are the black and white chessboard marble floor, the four tall minarets (40 m high) at the corners of the structure, and the majestic grand dome in the middle. On closer inspection, the lettering of the Holy Quran verses around the archways appear to be uniform. The lettering spacing and density has been customized to give this impression to the viewer. The impressive pietra dura artwork includes geometric elements & style, plants & flowers, which are common in Islamic architecture. The level of sophistication in artwork includes a 3 cm decorative element containing more than 50 inlaid gemstones.

Taj Mahal is the smybol of love which the mogal king Shah Jahan build in the memory of his wife Mumtaz Mahal.Shah Jahan's this monument is not considered as the one of the wonders of the world and recently when their was a voting for the new wonders of the world,Taj Mahal recieved most number of votes than any other monuments.

I appreciate your efforts coolcat123. I accept the beauty of taj. But I would like to tell you a secret behind its beauty. take a picture of taj-mahal. join the upper tip of the Dome to the two corners of the main structure. Surprised!. It will form a equilateral triangle, THE GEOMETRY OF THE PYRAMID. This is the reason why taj looks so balanced and just like a painted master-piece. But the perception comes from the pyramid. More-over there is one more similar building to taj, The Humayun's Tomb. The main difference is that the Humayun's tomb is placed at the centre of the charbhags and taj at the rear, but the architecture is almost the same.
The Pyramids were the first structures that were made for the dead Pharoahs. Taj comes at a later stage It was believed that when they die, they turn into GOD. It was the symbol for worship (Love is also worship!).
And do notice that I talked about the natural beauty of the Pyramids and not the material beauty of the gems and the calligraphy. As far as gems etc. are concerned, Pyramids are not far behind. There used to be a treasure chamber inside the pyramid for the offerings to the pharoah.
And last but not the least, Mummies that were kept inside the pyramids. Any Comments!?!

Acropolis should have been one the greatest wonders of the world. 3000 years of history and went down, that was not good.

Thanx livadas for your response. But what is so special about Acropolis that you feel like it should be the greatest wonder of the world. I mean on what grounds. Please explain in detail.

your comment is like you have never opened a single book of history! Acropolis was built 3500 years ago and the way it was built still today have not found the way to do it. The whole story of Greece and Athens has made history possible, our cultures started from athens and democracy is until now the only possible way people can live together and see the future possible. So please the next time you visit a bookstore buy a history book and learn where everything we do and live comes from Greece.
