Well first off a pitbull needs very limited boundaries. I didnot see in your write up if you are kenneling your puppy and if not please buy one ASAP. The reason being dogs are den animals and a kennel is there den. I would also suggest a shaker can with marbles in it and shake it everytime he or she does something wrong or that you don't like. I would also suggest if its a male and has not been fixed get it done now you will see a marked difference. I also would suggest a spray bottle full of water as most dogs don't like getting sprayed and use it to spray them in the but or face area when doing something wrong.

With pitbulls it's also very important that you don't encourage aggressive behavior. Most pitbull experts will tell you to not play tug of war with your pitbull. It encourages aggression. Make sure you're giving puppy lots of exercise. It's as simple as throwing a tennis ball or getting on the floor to play with it.

Your comment about playing tug of war with the pit bull makes sense to me and I thank you for raising this issue, I hadn't thought of that until now. A tip that I would give to the creater of this discussion is to socialize the puppy as much as possible, with many different kinds of people and animals as well.

I agree with the first two posts except our two pitbulls have never been kenneled and sleep in our room. It is important to them that the know their outside boundries, we have a large rural yard and they have to have a fence and gate or they go to the road to 'protect' us. With the boundries they are not interested in what goes on on the road. I make both our girls sit or ly down to stop barking once a vistor is 'approved' by us, and always help introduce them to new people. We also live with a Shih tzu who they respect and our son is under two. They are gentle and loving to him and very accepting. I love our pittys and while I didn't go out of my way to choose these dogs at first, we resuced them from going to the pound, I love owning PitBulls. Be prepared for a high profile dog and help you and your dog be good examples of the breed. Good luck!
ps. we have never played tug of war or helped to develop that in the girls. they love tennis balls!

What exactly is the problem that you are having with him? The best advice I can give on raising a pitbull is cuddle the hell out of him, socialize him with other animals, teach him to be kind, if he plays to rough stop playing with him, don't be rough back as that just tells him that it's okay because you are doing it.

On a separate note, did you put the tags on your discussion or were they added by someone else? Because 3 of them do not apply to the convorsation at all and kind of look like someone taking a shot at you.

I know that your pit is 3 months older now. I have first had experience in raising a pitbull. My sister had about 2 years ago bought a pit from a friend of my niece and before the pit was old enough to be taken from the mother, the mother started killing her pups for some unknown reason. As a result we got him way earlier than expected. I personally bottle fed this dog from the time we got him.as he gtrew he would chew everthing in sight thinking anything was his toy.we got chew toys for him and raw hide bones which was his favorite thing..We had bought him a huge 2 foot raw hide bone as he is big for his age.He would love to play tug of war with ropes and rawhide bones. when he became 1 to 1 and a half years old he started trying to be alpha dog and think he was the boss especially when he was doing something we did not want him to do.At that point we had to disipline him I used a rolled up newspaper on his hind end and also started using a spray bottle with water. Now when i visit my sister he cries for my attention and will never forget me since i was the one who fed him during the night when he was young.he listens to me more than anyone else
