This was so sad! |

| I was just visiting my iGoogle homepage and saw a story about a 12 year old girl who had died from a softball injury to her head. This is very sad! I feel so sad for her parents. I know how devastated they must be. I just don't understand! I thought softball was supposed to be the safe sport to put our daughters into. At least that's what everyone has been saying for years. This type of injury sounds like something that could happen in boy's baseball. My older brother was in kiddie baseball when he was eight years old and they were always having injuries. It's not surprising, considering the baseball that those teams use. But, at least they were required to wear helmets and knee pads. Simply can't understand why they wouldn't protect the girls with better helmets. You just assume when you let your child do extra-curricular sports that they will be safe. Guess that is not always the case. | | | | | |

| | This is very sad, but there is always a risk of injury in any kind of sport or activity any child or adult gets involved in. I read a story a couple days ago about an ex-baseball player coaching his son's baseball team and he died from a line drive to the head. Its such a tragedy that one thinks could never occur. My heart goes out to both families. | | | | | | |

| | Accidents have no formulae and when it comes to sporting accidents, it is even more to be expected-You know the story of superman-the late Mr. Clark who broke his neck in a horse ridding accident? He later died from injury related complication- Who thought he would die such a simple death! In my own country, my college coach-player got and unexpectd amputation from a mysterious fall that he got at the goal mouth as he was trying to score the ball, he just fell down and the next thing we heard was that his left leg had been subjected to amputation! As for this very young girl,I agree, there was a lot of neglegence, she needed to have been protection! But again death comes to us in mysterious ways, we can only pray that her death should be an eye opener to those running such games! | | | | | | |

| | It is always so sad when a child dies but how much worse when they die playing a so called safe sport! I cannot begin to comprehend how devastated and griefstricken they must be feeling! I thought schools always had to use the appropriate protective gear? xxxx | | | | | | |

| | I saw this article also. My heart goes out to the parents. I can't imagine how they must be feeling. I haven't seen a follow-up article yet, but I suspect there might have been something else wrong with the girl they didn't know about. There may have been a sensitive area the ball hit where she had a previous injury, or a birth defect of some sort. They are doing an autopsy, so that might shed some light on it. | | | | | | |

| | I do hope they find some answers. Yesterday I was talking to my spouse about this story and told him that I couldn't understand how someone could get injured with a softball and he had some very interesting things to say. He said that he had been hit in the head with a softball when he was a kid and almost passed out. He suffered an incredible amount of pain. I had no idea that was even possible. I guess it's not reall a softball. I wonder why they call it that? I guess there is really no safe sport. I will be interested to know what the team plans to do to prevent future injuries to other children. | | | |
