Too bad we can not throw our houses in the Boston Harbor!!
The title of this peice and the first sentence, is what I sported on poster board. Today people in my city went out and protest the major increase in our property taxes. They went up 50% to 210% depending on where in the county you live. Yeah you seen them number right, I didn't make them up.
Today officals thought that only a hundred or two people would show up for this Jam the Downtown Protest, I think they got more than they thought when thousands showed up to protest the increase we recieved on our tax bills.
I hear that the state of Indiana wasn't the only state that saw increases like that this year. So I want to know what you think of these price increases on everything. Not just property taxes and other taxes, the increases in the cost of living, and stuff alike.
When is the government going too far? When do American's stop the peaceful protests and use force? I think that, this is where we are heading and it makes me sad, that politicians, care more about lining their own pockets than protecting the people they are suppose to serve.

I am proud of these people. We have needed action for some time. I hope it did alot of good and since it has finally started somewhere more of us can do this and stand up for ourselves. We can only pay so much and then something has got to give.
The politicians are our employees and are supposed to represent us. We need to vote new people in until we find the ones that will represent us as they should. I look forward to the changes that might be a bit painful but are really necessary.

Thank you Willowlady. I appericate that, and I know the thousands of others that showed up appericates that also. One guy carried around a nouse (?sp son't have spell check in my head.) He walked with me and the group I was with and a news crew stopped him and asked him what it was for. He said to let our officals know they hung themselves and they would be out of a job.
My son was interview also, he is 7. He was showing his sign, that said "Too bad we can't throw our houses in the Boston Harbor." They asked him what he thought about increases in taxes, he said. Don't they learn from the past. The American Revolution was caused from Unfair taxes. It was so cute how he said it because revolution came out as re-vel-ustion.

Willow you got to check out this link. It is what one of the taxpayer did.
http://video.aol.com/video/taxpayer-brings-tax-office-to-a-standstill/1957148
He paid all of his taxes in ones and change, over 12k in taxes. Took the entire staff of the treasurers office 1 and half hours to count it all. He says he is going to pay his fall taxes the same way.
It don't show it in the video, but Fox news was there live when he went and paid his taxes and the treasurer yell at him and told him to go get a money order or largers bills. He told him no, he didn't have to and if they didn't accept it, he would file suit. I am clapping inside and am wishing our mortage company didn't pay our taxes.

I could now agree with you more..it seems that with all of the money that passes through the hands of our politicians in the name of "making life better" for the citizens of that country that WE the people would actually benefit from it somehow...look around..every single benefit that is available is being cut in some way...people are receiving less and less: Yet the people whom we have elected to supposedly be watching out for us are in reality looking out for themselves...another civil war in the USA is not an impossible thought...I can see it happening in he future if things do not change here for the better...I do not think that I will live to see it...but I do fear for my children and grandchildren as they may be the generation that just "has enough!"...

I have to agree with you. I know alot of my generation has had enough. I am active in my community. (Not as much lately cause I was nursing an injury, but getting back into it.) There is a group of us that get together every once in a while. When we have our get together's, the smallest turn out is 100 people, the most we have had at once was over 1500 people gathered. We all live in the same area and share some of the same beliefs. Lately, there has been talk about standing up, through protest first, then if we must.... well you know. I hope it don't come that far, but I see it approaching, faster, than anyone could imagine.

I don't understand why everything is going up. Do these people not have to pay taxes like the rest of us?
I think everyone should be watching and noting who is doing what so they can make an informed choice at the next elections....local and federal. Get those idiots out of office! We too easily forget that the government is supposed to be 'by the people, FOR the people'.

That is why a group of us are going to create a new politcal party. We are gonna call it the poorman's party. The whole ideal on it, is to volunteer your time to your twon and country. People that have the time, stay at home mom's and dad's, retired folks, and anyone who can hold the office time requirements without loosing their homes.
We also figure, that many American's don't vote. A pole I saw once said it was like 15% durning regular elections and 25% in the presidental elections. Maybe if people see that other are giving out their time for the love of freedom, maybe they will do. NO ELECTED POSTION SHOULD BE A PAID ON IN MY VIEW. EVEN THE PRESIDENT! That is why most day that JFK was taken down, he refused payment for office. He is someone to emulate in that.

Since the elected officials are (hopefully) using their full time and attention on their office, I think they should be paid something. NOT the ridiculous amounts they are getting now! They have families to feed, too.
I also think there should be some kind of watch-dog agency to make SURE the officials are doing the job. Nowhere in the REAL world would you find bosses that put up with people botching their jobs so badly!
Maybe we should figure out a way to make the agency and when a serious flub (like the tax increaase you mentioned) was caught, the official had to immidiately fix it or be fired. End of discussion. No 'Ho ho, i messed up' and it doesn't get fixed and they just keep on going.
