My friend is getting married next month. Her aunt, who lives in Houston, has come over to India. Now, she is giving a bridal shower party. We have a similar event here, prior to wedding but I donot know much about the ceremony. Can you pls tell me more about it? Do I need to carry some gifts and flowers or cards?
Thank you.

Even though I'm Indian I have always lived in the UK and have very little experience of Indian bridal showers. The bridal showers we have here are usually called hen nights and I can imagine that they are nothing like the serene and sensible affair that an Indian bridal shower would be LOL. You would be shocked to hear of the things women get up to at hen nights here so I won't scare you with tales of those! When I got married, I had a rather tame hen night compared to others that I've been to, I went to an Indian restaurant/nightclub with about 30 friends and we drank and ate and danced till 2 in the morning, I had a fantastic time!
My advice to you if you're going to a bridal shower hosted by someone else is to take along a small bouquet of flowers and/or a personal gift for your friend - you know her so you know her taste - maybe something like a book of love poems or wedding anecdotes :)
Here are some links that might be useful but they're not all specific to Indian brides:

hi sweetie,
thanks a lot, that would be quite a help. i think i would carry a bouquet of flowers and a photo album and if can get hold of nice book of love poems, i will try and buy one today.
i am just curious about the hen nights. here, we hens are, as you know, quite girly and controlled. so it would fun to hear you story.

Bring gifts, you must. Bridal shower is a party for the bride, you have to make her happy before she will tie the knot. Make her happy by singing with her, sharing a plans for her marriage, a baby names, anything about her and him that will make her happy.

its long over dear. i bought some funny, girly knick knacks and made a huge card with funny lines and pics on it. we had a blast in the party, playing adult games and eating junkies.
Thanks for asking.

I depends on the personality of the bride and maybe who's throwing it. Usually the matron on honor throws the bride a shower. It can be as tame as a lunch or dinner at a nice restaurant or it can be as wild as taking the bride out to a stip club and anywhere in between. Since it's the aunt who's throwing the shower I'm assuming she's older and probably won't have any crazy ideas.
People sometimes play games at a shower. Some have a theme with decorations and gift ideas especially the brides favorite things. It can get very creative it all depends on the hostess and what she wants to do and what the brides likes are. I found a site that might give you an idea. www.bridalshower.com
As far as gifts are concerned if someone is very good friends with the bride they give romantic gifts the couple will use on the honeymoon. Lingerie is a popular gift for the bride but that's really only given by very close friends of the bride.
A gift both the bride and groom can share would be good.
