Do you carry plastic bags with you when you purchase anything ?  

We always take our own bags with us when we go shopping. I am really tired of seeing plastic bags hanging from trees. They blow around and end up in the gutters or by the curbs. What a mess. I think we need to take better care of our planet. I either use tote bags or a backpack when I shop.

I have cloth bags that I use, but I need to get more. Unfortunately because of the enviro stuff, everyone else wants them. Safeway and the other grocery stores announce that they have their own special brand of those dark green canvas bags, but they are usually sold out. So when we go shopping, the clerk will the cloth bags,and uses plastic bags for the rest. When we have plastic bags left over, we return them to Safeway. As for other shopping, taking a cloth bag with you, lets people know you tend to spend money, a rather dangerous announcement if you are supposed to be on a budget. I am not doing it to save the world from pollution. I do it because those d-m plastic bags are too short, and after time, they develop holes and I do not those cans falling through.

yeah, guess it's better. but sometimes i really wonder how much one person, or one nation even, can contribute to reducing pollution arising from plastic bags. even if 4 million people stopped using them, the 2 billion more of people around the world might continue and then what kind of an impact is there? next to nothing.

i dunno... paper bags are more biodegradable and reusable bags are earth friendly, but sometimes we just need plastic bags to use as bin liners. durable and cheap.

In Italy we still use plastic bags but I think they should be replaced by something nature friendly. Anyway the most important thing is not to throw these bags wherever but to ricicle them if possible.
