this is an old story but worth its weight in gold to serve as a reminder for lessons learning..
one day,the father of a very wealthy family took his son on a trip to the country with the express purpose of showing hi how poor people live.they spent a couple of days and nights on the farm of what would be considered a very poor family. On their return from their trip, the father asked his son,"How was the trip?""It was great,Dad.""Did you see how poor people live?" the father asked."Oh yeah,"said the son."So tell me,what you learned from the trip?" asked the father. The son answered:
"I saw that we have one dog and they had four.We have a pool that reaches to the middle of our garden and they have a creek that has no end.We have imported lanterns in our garden and they have the stars at the night.
"Our patio reaches to the front yard and they have the whole horizon. We have a small piece of land to love on and they have fields that go beyond our sight.
"We have servants, who serve s,but they serve others. We but our food, but they grow theirs. We have walls around our property to protect us,they have friends to protect them."
the boy father was speechless. Then the son added,"Thanks Dad for showing me how poor we are."
A chinese proverbs says:"he who is content can never be ruined."
Some people complain all the time
"They're not paing me enough...
"I never liked my job.."
but wait till a chilling message begins to creep through the corporate grapevine. "There's news that the company had been brought by an other and there will be a massive layoff."
"many jobs will be cut and many positions will be declared redundant..."
Suddenly, the tune of the music changes drastically.Discontent turns to fear.Grumbling turns into prayers. And why do we have to allow things like these yo happen? We never appreciate the value of something until that thing is taken away from us.And why is this so? because it is so hard for us to learn and understand contentment.Without contentment, there will always be contention.
Here is the key.Shoot the best.Excel in whatever field you are in.Dream big dreams but learn to enjoy life's small pleasures along the way.
