Have you ever been to an online baby shower?

Recently, a friend of mine invited me to an online baby shower. Apparently, it's the same as a baby shower offline, except that a bunch of friends get together in a chat room online and play baby related games and then go off to the mommy-to-be's favorite baby website and purchase stuff for her. Unique concept to be sure. With my next baby, I am seriously considering doing one of these instead of the traditional showers. Most of the people I know live far away, so it wouldn't be as convenient for them to drive a long way just for a one or two hour party. Have you ever been to one of these online baby showers? Do you think you would go if you were invited? Do you think that you would purchase a gift for the mommy/baby if you attended?

I had never heard of an online baby shower. Sounds like fun though. You can stay in your own familiar surroundings but still participate in the event, which is a great idea.

Yes and the games are really fun too. It's more cerebral though. You don't have to worry about the embarrassing baby diaper smelling contests or other gross stuff. Just lots of chat and remembering when one's own babies were born. I think online parties promote sisterhood among guests more than actual baby showers. Maybe you'll get an invite sometimes! They're lots of fun.

I've never heard of online baby showers, but they seem like something that would be fun. I should have done one when I was pregnant! lol I would definitely participate if one of my friends invited me to one. I would buy a gift, too. If I have another baby, we might do an online baby shower. My family is so far away that with my son, I didn't even have a shower. We just had a "welcome baby" party at my parents' house when we were finally able to go there when my son was 4 months old. By then we already had just about everything we needed. We just got some clothes and toys as gifts. It would have been more convenient to do an online baby shower and have help getting some of the stuff that we had to pay for ourselves.

When I first heard about it, that was my very thoughts exactly. Families don't always live near each other anymore, and new moms/moms-to-be are having to miss out on the good gifts they really used to be able to count on. I will definitely be doing one of these if and when the time ever comes. Most of my friends live so far away, they'd never make it in time for the shower. Plus, I have lots of online friends. I'd never want to exclude them from such a special part of my life as the baby shower. Why should they miss out on the fun! Spread the joy, that's my motto.

I am not really sure how I feel about this. If you have friends and family all over the place it makes sense. However if everyone lives close by it seems like you are asking for the gifts without the fun of the party.

It's the first time I heard of that, but I think it's a great idea if you made a lot of friends who live far. I don't have enough friend online to do that, so for my shower it will be a traditionnal one :)

Wow, that sounds pretty awesome actually! =) I've never been invited to an online baby shower, but I would certainly be interested if I were invited to one. I think it's neat because so many people these days have friends all over the place, and instead of just having to exclude these people you can invite everyone! If I were going to have another baby, I would definitely consider an online baby shower!

I know, I was thinking the same thing. It's just such a stress trying to get everyone in one spot on the same day. Not everyone lives so close. And, with my little one running around, I am sure the cake and decorations would be history in five minutes! When I heard about the online shower, I just knew it would be fun. Definitely will try it out if the occasion ever arises.

hi...never...haha..and this is my first time to hear such thing... cool innovation, adapting to technology... my only experiences are "actual" baby showers... well, for me nothing can ever replaced a physical presence of friends:-D

I have never heard of it, nor would I do it. Seems to me it is rude to get presents that way.

It sounds different I would attend to see what it was like it sounds really cool to me. I would have to get a gift to send or something if I was invited.

No I have not - but I am certain I would do it- What a great way to feel included when you are not there- I think it is a super idea- Of course I would purchase a gift if I attended- it would be just like a shower except I would not have to go to the store prior.

I have to say, that is a new one for me! I haven't seen or heard of this before your post. I suppose it is a great idea when the friends of the mom-to-be live far away. It seems odd however, not being able to be there to see each other. Great concept for those separated by the miles.

Wow that is interesting concept, never heard of that. I think I would if it were family overseas. I would send a gift for sure if I was invited. I wonder how your friend did it? I would be interested in hearing more about it.

That does sound like a really neat idea! Sometimes I am unable to attend the showers because of things going on at home, and being unable to travel to where it is. This would be perfect!
