This is one of those movies that really sends a powerful message about family. The movie stars Chow Yun Fat and Gong Li, who are excellent. Be sure and watch the special features, as they are done well also. The costumes are impressive. I watched the movie in Chinese; however, its in English also. The movie has subtitles in English and French, so many people can enjoy it. I was impressed with how fast the flowers were put into rows and sure would like their help moving plants.

The movie is rated R and not a good choice for children. There is a lot of violence. Be prepared and watch with the tissue box, as the Empress has to endure more than most of us could in our life.

I've seen the movie and my heart was crushed toward the end as I was not anticipating what the son would do. I really crushed my heart and spirit especially the part when the youngest son also revolted against his father the king and how he was punished to death. Although it was grimy to me as there was too much violence but it also shows some wonderful impressive scenes like when they replaced the carpet and the flower beds. Well, with the population of China, what do you expect?
However, since watching that movie, I started to hate seeing yellow mums because it reminds me of that bloody movie.

Thank you for posting. I agree about the flowers hard for me to look at them without thinking of this movie. The movie really had a powerful message. It is the most violent movie I have viewed this year and made me cringe many times. Normally, I prefer family and PG Rated Movies, but the actors drew me to this movie.

That's true, although it's a family movie but it somehow makes you think how greed and covetousness can cause family war just to get the highest position. By the way, thank you for the Best Response Mark. It made my day a little brighter :-D
