This is a caterpillar tractor like on that my husband use to own. I use to watch my husband out in the field driving the tractor. If the tractor broke down my husband would do the mechanic work on it while his father took a different tractor out in the fields to do more work. One year my father in-law planted 15 acres of barley that got a fungus on it. The barley was not suitable for harvesting so he had to go and plow it all down. What a sad that was, he lost all the money he spent on the seed, fuel for the tractor not counting all the hours it took getting the land ready and then planting the barley. This was the days before there was such a thing as crop insurance. I stood outside at the ranch holding our daughter, who was one or two years old at the time.
I guess I have more memories about the ranch then I thought until going out there today. It is sad no one is living in the house, but with my health and my husband’s stroke we decided to move into town. We decided 20 acres and the house was too much for us to take care of. I do miss the quiet, the breeze and the solitude.
