Changing Insulins?

I have been using NPH insulin for almost a year now. I give myself three shots each day with 74+ units each time. My blood sugar levels are finally down to approx. 200 which is high but so much lower than they used to be. Sometimes it is below 200 but close to it.
The doctor has just changed my insulin to two different types, one for the long term, given in one shot per day. The other for meal times, to be given 15 minutes before each meal. I am scared to have this new prescription filled. It seems like such a radical change. Plus I have been so sick with most of the meds that the doctors keep giving me. Most of the time, I can barely walk, feel dizzy and sick and often can not function at all. I can't lose weight like this, exercise makes me feel VERY sick plus hurts and I don't know what to do.
Has anyone else had this happen to them with their diabetes? I feel like I'm alone here and the doctors just keep saying take this, take that and lose weight. HOW? I am so frustrated!

I have never had a problem with the insulin making me sick. I was on NPH and Regular for 30 years before I switched to Humalog. It is a fast acting insulin, and I am trying to get an insulin pump, but I don't have any health insurance now and they are so expensive. I would maybe try a different doctor if that is possible, someone to better help your situation. Good luck!

I am taking NPH too -- 45 units per day, two injections. I've been using it for twenty-two years now, since I was diagnosed with Type I diabetes. I desperately want to switch to a longer acting insulin, but can't until my health insurance coverage begins in December.
Last year, I lost 30lbs by watching my carbohydrates more closely, eating healthier food (more veggies, more fiber), and riding a recumbent exercise bike. My average blood-sugar was around 240 when I started, but I got it down to 150. Not perfect, but I could feel the improvement.
You may need a more understanding doctor.
Good luck!

You are not alone. My roomie has had some of the problems. And, really, the only weight loss system they recommend is the one their office supports. Its one of those $$ systems too. She has gotten on byeta - it made her sick at first, but it has really gotten her numbers down. She's been able to reduce her insulin intake for the first time.
Try being blind as well as diabetic & over weight with high blood pressure & high colestoral
