Can you suggest an alternative to Microsoft Word processing program? |
| |
| I've been using the Windows based programs for years, but one of my least favorite programs happens to be the Microsoft Works Word processing program. It's just too bulky to use and always freezes up my computer everytime it comes up. And, I can't make it hyperlink words properly. And, it's a little outdated as well. Could anyone suggest an alternative program that works for both word processing and maybe some light html as well? Possibly a free or cheap word processing software program that would be compatible with the Windows XP computer? Would appreciate suggestions. Thanks! | | | | | |

| | My favorite program (and it's free) is Open Office. It's basically a clone of Microsoft Word except it's free. It even can handle Microsoft Word documents. It includes an editor for spreadsheets, powerpoints, and many other things. It's probably about the better version of Microsoft Works. | | | | | | |

| | Just try some of these Abiword , Open Office, K-office, Or you can use Google Docs for online word processing. I have used Abi word and Open office both are free to download and use. If you want office suits like a full bundle of all the spread sheet, presentations, drawings, and word processing use Open Office. If you need simple word procesing use Abi word. If you wish to store your documents online without having any worry of getting lost while you OS crashes then use Google Docs. Further you need information let me know. | | | | | | |

| | There are plenty of Word processors available, from commercial software to freeware programs, so you can simply search via Google for "word processor". Personally I consider Microsoft Word to be the leader in the field and I use it for a variety of purposes. If the version that you are using is too bulky for your system and demands too much system resources, you could try installing an earlier version. Microsoft Word 97 would still offer a rich variety of options and use much less space and resources. | | | | | | |

| | I recommend using Open Office. I made the switch from Microsoft Word several months ago, and I couldn't be happier that I did. Open Office does everything that I've ever needed from it, plus a few things that Word doesn't do, like exporting documents as PDF files. It allows you to export documents as HTML files, too. The best part about it is the fact that it's 100% free to download and use. | | | | | | |
