What is the use of teaching the Valve theory now?

In Electronics Engineering or in Physics why the theory of Valves are taught even today.I feel it is of no use to any student now. Because it has become totally outdated.Teaching things which are out dated are just additional burden to students. The curriculam developers should be from the field of application engineering. People with only the experience of teaching canot cater to the present advancement of science unless they are exposed to it. Students only copycat the teachers.And the same generation continues. But actual growth of science is in its application level.Valve theory is only an example.Others can coment on the similar things happenning your areas as well.
