i arrived in china last night from hongkong via train. i've been to both countries several times but i've never really got used to eating using chopsticks. i've learned to use them but i just can't seem to eat comfortably using them. so oftentimes, i ask for a fork whenever dining. like today, we were in these really big restaurants and the food was great and all but it was just so uneasy to be the only one not using the chopsticks!

i know how to use a chopstick as it has been available to me since childhood. I am a not a chinese but it's real cool to know some about other cultures .
Try eating with chopsticks in a chinese restaurant and see how many eyes stare at you, with a smile or 2 from others.

I enjoy eating with chopsticks and it seems like second nature to mee because I learned how to do it many years ago...
The elegance and dexterity will come with practice, just like writing with a pen or pencil. Asian people will sometimes view your attempts to eat with this type of utensil as complimentary, so they will often be willing to show you how.
Here are some simple instructions:

I have had people try to teach me how to use chopsticks, but I could never actually do it myself. It is too hard for me lol. Plus I don't ever eat Chinese food or anything so I don't need them. I would prefer a fork.. it's what I'm used to, I guess.
