wild sunflowers

Hi TerryZ! Oh I love sunflowers. I wish I could have some in our garden. I guess I shouldn't be responding to this discussion because I do not know how to grow them so I could not really be of help.LOL! Just kidding...I just want to tell you that I share the same liking for sunflowers. They look very happy flowers to me. I guess, I would settle for fake ones too. Just go to the store(wal-mart)and buy a tray with little holes for planting seeds in.It has a cover with it.The woman would know at the store.Put some dirt in each hole,add one seed in each hole and cover with more dirt.Water when dirt is dry.After you see you have sprouts,do not pick off the seed if it is stuck on the sprout.Remember to put them in a sunny spot with the cover,they wil grow faster with the heat.If you have alot of moisture forming on the cover inside, remove for a while to dry.When they are about 2 1/2-3 inches tall or touching the top of the cover,transplant them in the ground 4-5 inches apart.Make sure you stake them when they are around 4 feet tall so they will grow straight.Germination is around 20-28 days long.(from seed to sprout).This is how i grow mine and they are already 6 feet high and not done growing yet.They will bloom in a couple of weeks.My daughter will have to fight with the birds over whos getting the seeds!Theres enough for everyone.I wish you good luck and just follow my recipe for sunflowers.Gauranteed to work if you dont forget to water.He,he.

I think sunflowers are pretty easy just to plant, although it's kind of late in the season to think of growing any now...just down the block from me in part of the "garden" area in front of the building my friend lives in is all kinds of beautiful flowers growing there including enormous sunflowers..absolutely beautiful...Well I might not be able to give you advice on how to grow them, nor give you a bouquet of them myself to you...would you settle for a picture I took as a present to you? LOL

Hello I just love flowers and it is so sad when they die, and flowers dont last nearly as long as you would like . I love sunflowers they are so bright, and just happy flowers to me . Nothing like driving in the country and seeing them all along a fence . Last spring I planted some, and they didnt last as long as I would of liked them too . I think I will plant some over this long weekend, but I dont think they will come up till July! I am always late plating my flowers, but the good thing is my wild ones always come up! I buy flowers from walmart as well . I had these roses that were in a vase with water, and everyone thought they were real .
