30 years Ago The King Passed Away  

I was shocked to hear of his death. Even knowing how he abused his body and the lifestyle he had, it was still a shock. My Sister-in-law sat down and cried. It thought it odd to see her do this over someone she never met.

It didn't affect me one little bit! Other people have died since that, more important people. who nobody recognizes, like the man who jumped in the river last year to save 2 boys, and though he got the boys out, died himself. Or the firefighters who went back into a building they knew was going to collapse because there might just be someone left in there. Put things into perspective, please

I can't say I was surprised when he died though it was very sad. I saw footage of his last concert and I remember me and my mother looked at each other and we were both thinking the same thing, he wasn't going to live much longer. He was so overweight, his color was bad and he looked very tired and weak. Just not his old self.

I loved his movies when I was growing up and he was my first big crush. I thought he was so sexy, before I knew what sexy was! LOL.

I did shed some tears, mostly because I knew he had done it to himself. He had all the money in the world, loved ones, friends, a beautiful daughter and he wasn't happy enough to want to take care of himself.

It was just very sad all the way around.

Actually I can believe it's been 30 years. I was only one year old in 1977 when he passed away, so unfortunately he's been gone for most of my life. I think he's an amazing musician and I envy anyone who ever got to see one of his live concerts, especially ine from the 50's.

It's a video of him playing Unchained Melody on piano just a few weeks before he died. He looks incredibly different to the young Elvis, but he was still an amazing singer and musician.

I am not yet out to this world during Elvis days. And I could say that its like I miss one half of my life. Elvis is one of the greatest singer of all time. Hes an icon. How sad he is already dead when I was born.

I was only a baby then. When I grew up it was Whitney Houston and Madonna who were famous. I've heard Elvis songs from the radio, usually Nostalgia session.
I saw a video of his last song on the internet a few months ago and I cried. It was only a shortwhile before he died and he still sang. He was overweight and sweating uncontrollably, why would his manager allow him to sing in this condition? he supposed to rest or being treated just like everyone else who was ill

i wasnt around when Elvis died...but i head he was a very very popular star at the time...shame that he died of such a young age... Many adults i know appreciate his singing and dancing... he definately deserve the title "king".
Personally, i ahve not been affected by Elvis's death since i want born at that time... but i certainly wish i could have got the chance to hear him sing live...

I was only 8 years old when he died, but I remember my mom and grandma were very upset. They both loved his music and his movies. I remember watching and listening to Elvis when I was younger, and yes he did have a great voice, but I also feel the publicity over his death and still today is kind of big. There are many other important people who have died since and their deaths aren't sensationalized like his death was and still is.

I was only 8 years old when it happened, so I don't remember it that well...I remember John Lennon being shot more than Elvis passing away.

So it did not effect me much at all.

I think while Elvis had a distinguished music career, I have to say that his life was plagued with problems and very possibly drugs.

I remember Wayne, the male who adopted me, talking about hte flowers at the funeral, and how it would have been an honor to do any of the arrangements for it, and that people were ordering huge shapes to be done to memory of his songs, blue suede shoes, hound dogs, etc, etc...

But I think for me a bigger passing in the music world would be George Strait....

I was only 3, but I remember that people were sad about it. It was also the day that we moved to our first real house, so the whole atmosphere was pretty strange to me. I think it was a few years later when I actually learned who Elvis was, and noticed the impact that he'd had on people.
