Dear friend of flowers. We have a lot in common and that must have to do with the sense of beauty. I have not much experience in growing flowers, but I have found out some interesting things about how to feed them. I have only a balcony so I would like it to be a beautiful oasis full of colors and flowers that are healthy and grow all the summer season. There are lots of fertilizers in the shops and I prefer those that are natural - organic. But there is a cheaper solution too. Maybe you have heard that if you cover the soil with organic material, your plants will get the right humidity and when that organic material starts changing due to the bacteria in the soil, it gives your plants and flowers excellent nutrition. I am using a simple solution to get this material to my plants. When I make tea, I use tea leaves and after pouring the tea out, the leaves are left. Then I fill the can with cold water and water my plants with it - I use an open can so that the leaves follow the water down into the pot. After doing that for some days, my flowerpots are covered with the leaves and the flowers are happy. Only one teaspoon of tea every day is enough to feed some plants so that they keep healthy and full of flowers. (This text is a part of the content on my website. Some comments are welcome) Have you tried to feed your plants with tea leaves??

I have never used tea leaves, but compost works well. Since you live in an apartment and a large composter is probably out of the question, if you can get a small container to store food scraps in, then this is good feed for the plants. Also, find grass clippings. The fresher the better, and put them on your soil. The nutrients will seep into the soil and feed the plants. This is the main reason why its suggested that you leave clippings on your lawn in the summer. Not only do you water the lawn less, but it gives back the nutrients that would otherwise be thrown away. You can use coffee grounds as well, and even fireplace ashes, just as long as the ashes are from wood, not garbage. The ash content helps the soil as well.

Yes, you are right, we should all have a small composter on the balcony.. I have tried grass clippings, they are really good to prevent weeds and keep the soil moist. I have earlier had plants in a small kitchen garden and used to put the grass clippings around the plants and as they dried, they weren´t blown away with the wind. It is always great to cover tho soil with, as they really have a lot of nutrients.. Thanks for your response!!
