I just heard it announced that the toy chain Toys-R-Us has removed some brands of baby bibs from their shelves after two that were made in China were found to contain amounts of lead in excess of normal. What's next, folks? When will Americans let their dissatisfaction be heard? Maybe it's like talk show host Michael Savage said tonight: Americans are asleep.

I think it is hard to delete China completely at this moment as this is almost more than 80% dependent on China and its not easy to find lternative overnight. How many daily use marchendise (except food) can be found that is not made in China? So it is a business contineuing from many years so it takes time. More and more fault fpund mean people will be more and more concius but it will take time.

I am aware that change takes time, cmsk, but the fix we are now in did not happen overnight. It will take everyone working together for the greater good to put into practice these new methods. I think Americans are as smart as people anywhere else and should be able to produce whatever is necessary. We are very rich in resources, so why not put them to the best use?

Indeed it is sad, weemam. This is why we need elected officials who will put the needs of the people above financial gain. I like to think that there are still a few honest politicians left out there somewhere.

I first heard it on my favorite radio talk show, WHIOAM. They give headlines at the top of the hour. It was on Fox News the following hour. You could probably read about it on Foxtv.com

Well, I for one wish they'd wake up and stop all this trading. At least if the things were made in the US we'd know they were safe. But why should China care if Americans are posioned or sick from their products...it's not their families and children.

Again!?! Ppl are going to get to where they aren't going to want to buy anything for their kids. I really think they need to close trading with China until they straighten up. Maybe if they lost some of the work they get they'd quit trying to kill and posion ppl with their manufacturing.

I think the government is finally beginning to see the light, twoey. I heard on the early morning news that they are going to start looking more closely into all the products that are imported from other countries.

This is really sickening. I think someone should open their eyes. Why can't our government open their eyes and get our jobs back here, making the things we need.

Actually I don't understand the nature of this problem with toys made in China containing harmful elements in them. China is but a toy factory, which American firms like Mattel and Toys-R-Us use to manufacture toys for them. I would think that in a business arrangement, where either a company contracts (or sub-contracts) a factory somewhere in the world to manufacture their toys, or a company sets up its factories in other countries in order to leverage on the cheap labor to manufacture their toys cheaply, there must surely be quality control processes in place to ensure the manufactured toys meet the quality attainments of the toy company before they are accepted for distribution and sale. Wouldn't it be incumbent upon the American toy companies to have their quality checks in place to ensure their specifications with the China factory are first met (and that includes ensuring toys are not made from harmful ingredients) before these toys leave the factory floor? So if toys sold are subsequently found to be harmful to consumers, doesn't this reflect a failure of the quality control function of the toy company? If say the factory took short cuts illegally to save cost and escaped being caught by the toy company, then the factory should be taken to task. Right now, the accusing fingers are all pointing at China, but as I mentioned at the start, they are just the contracted manufacturer, not the party that specified what is to be in the manufactured product. Do others share this view?

What is next? This is so uncalled for. When are we going to wake up and fix this? Cheaper is costing More. Look at all the money they have lost due to the recalls on all the products. No sense in that.
