I finally got my new "first" guitar!!! | | Well, as most of you who here who read my other discussions or have been to my blog, you would know that I really wanted a new guitar as the old one which wasn't even mine was really tattered and just near-death. But I've still been trying to learn songs on it, and have gotten far in terms of learning the basic chords and a song or two. So yesterday, me and my sisters went out, one of my sisters wanted to get a camera, and so went camera shopping. I had no idea that I would be coming home with my first ever guitar. Well, while looking at different cameras, we ended up at the mall, where there is a shop called plug-ins which has only a very few Yamaha acoustics. I had wanted to get one for a long time, but since I'm out of a job, I just couldn't save enough for it. Then out of the blue, my sister said that since we're here, why don't we just get it? And she did get it for me, as an early birthday present. Oh, god I love her so much now, not just because she bought me something I had wanted for a long time, but because she cared enough to understand that I really am passionate about learning. Well, I read about it online and it's a actually a pretty great guitar, a good brand, and is supposedly the all time number 2 guitar for beginners as well. We got it for around 36 Bahraini Dinars which is around 98$, great price, and it sounds absolutely great. I was playing it last night. I'm so happy I finally have it. Here are the specifications I found for it on the Yamaha site. F310 The Yamaha F310 is an excellent quality instrument at a truly affordable price. Its dreadnought style body provides loud acoustic tone with comfortable playability. Spruce Top Indonesian Mahogany Back and Sides Nato Neck Javanese Rosewood Fretboard Sonokeling Bridge 20 Frets Chrome Hardware Natural, Tabacco Sunburst finishes Limited Lifetime Warranty And here is what my new beauty looks like. The new one is the one on the right, and the tiny looking one is my old one, which was missing a string.

My father has acoustic guitars (not branded guitars... e.g. Yahama, Gibson.. etc.) but still I have learned the basic chords. My father plays guitar very well, but I have not learned playing guitar from him. I've learned it by myself. So, good for you! ~mar

vega83 (1408) | 1 year ago | Well, if you've got a great guitarist in your home itself, then why not at least learn some from him. I know it's always such a better feeling when you learn something on your own instead of having a teacher of some sort. At least it feels better to me. Thanks for the response.

jalbeos (641) | 1 year ago | When I started my high school... I've moved from my family and stayed with my brother 20+ km. away from my family. I agree that it feels good when you own father teaches you but I missed it. I am not interested about learning guitar when I was with my family but when I started my high school... I saw the one of my classmates who played guitar very well and that urged me to learn playing guitar... ~mar

The sound will be great and fine audible to all types and ages of ears.....a fine blasting, maaaan!!!! Will so NO for not a teakwood guitar.

vega83 (1408) | 1 year ago | hmm.. I didn't know about that teakwood part. I guess it's important, but to tell you the truth, the yamaha really does sound great. It was so good that I kept practicing the whole day.

vega83 (1408) | 1 year ago | Yeah, you're right, and I think music learning should definitely be a part of school as well. It's just as important as any other education. After all, it's also a skill. thanks for the good wishes.

vega83 (1408) | 1 year ago | I'll buy my first guitar with my own money? Ha ha, thank God I don't have that kind of pride, ha ha. Well, I gotta say this is probably the best birthday present ever. I did practice a whole lot yesterday, more than I had ever practiced before in one day, I guess, the sound of the guitar makes a lot of difference, since I could actually hear myself improving and getting better. Yesterday I learned the 12 bar blues, and it sounded great. I guess some credit has to go to you too, Mike, since you are the one who inspired me to take up learning in the first place. Thanks for that, because I'm having so much fun, and I hope to send you and mp3 of me playing a full song very soon.

| | | | 7. raychill (3491) | 1 year ago | I don't know much about guitars myself cause I've never had the desire to learn/play. To me the guitar is so cliche (not that that's a bad thing, more that it's just so popular especially around here, maybe not so much in your area) and I'd rather learn to play something not so popular, but I have no rhythm and suck at the drums:( But anyway good luck and that is super sweet that you have a sister who would buy you something like that to help you learn!
| |
| |
vega83 (1408) | 1 year ago | I don't think any instrument can be a cliche, since learning any of them takes time, dedication and practice, and none of them are easy. To not want to learn something just because it sounds like a cliche, is kind of a preconceived judgment, without even trying something for yourself. The guitar is a wonderful instrument, and you can play any kind of music on it, literally, any kind. It's my most favorite instrument, followed by the violin and then the piano. I think it is also the most versatile of all instruments, on which you can play a soft ballad as well as a rocking rock song. And for me, learning something new is a reward in itself anyway. Well, didn't mean to ramble there, just felt I had to stand up for my beloved guitar. Yeah, i love my sister for understanding how much it means to me, and helping me with it. It is the sweetest thing anyone has ever done for me.

raychill (3491) | 1 year ago | Firstly, that's fine that you stuck up for it, even if I didn't bash it. Secondly, to clarify I never said I didn't play the guitar BECAUSE it was cliche. I said I never had the desire to play and then I said it was cliche... Two completely different statements...different sentences... having absolutely nothing to do with one another. And lastly, being that cliche basically means common or familiar, my saying that it is Cliche is not a preconceived judgement but a simple fact stating that, as I said, it's a very popular instrument to play around where I am from. I did say I'd rather play something not so popular, but I guess I forgot to mention that I also think the drums are the most amazing instrument... and not just less popular. and so as to not offend anymore I'll stop here...though I wasn't trying to offend in the first place.
| |
vega83 (1408) | 1 year ago | I didn't feel offended, I just felt that the guitar is not just a cliche. It is not as common as you might think. Even if the instrument might be really common, the different kinds of music that can be played on it is diverse. My bad, I did mix up your not wanting to play and the guitar being a "cliche". Yes they were different statements, that one's totally my mistake.
| |
raychill (3491) | 1 year ago | Well of course the music everyone chooses to play is different but the instrument is the same. It's just like when I was in Elementary and Middle school Band. The most popular instruments were the Flute and the Clarinet. I played the Clarinet. It's the instrument that's cliche, not the person or the music played on it. Maybe not in Bahrain, but in America if you polled 100 kids that play a musical instrument outside of school band, at least 70% or more would play the guitar. Not even bass guitar... to me, that's pretty popular.
| |
vega83 (1408) | 1 year ago | Yeah, it is quite popular, but I guess that makes it better for me, because it's so much easier to find lessons online and guitar tabs for all the songs I love, because it's so popular. And have something so common and then make it your own, by having your own unique sound, now that's a challenge.
| |
raychill (3491) | 1 year ago | see I never said popularity was a bad thing:)

vega83 (1408) | 1 year ago | Yeah, it definitely rocks, alright. Wow, you had lots of guitars and you sold them? I guess, it's better that someone plays them, instead of just keeping them with you as possession, well the next time you get a guitar as a present, do try to learn it, you'll definitely have fun.
