Yes I have quite smoking. Not one relapse in almost three months so I am feeling proud of myself! But not too proud. If you have quite smoking please give me your tips. If you have quit any other difficult habits I would like to hear how.

This is because I still feel very tempted to have a cigarette, especially when I am socializing at night times. For example last weekend I was very close to having a cigarette and I convinced myself no...just not so sure I can be so strong forever.

To start with you need to keep away fom the old habits as much as possible or change them. Instead of coffee in the morning, when you ussually had a cigarette, have tea, change the type of drinks you drink when you go out. Identify these habits and their little quirks and change them or avoid them.

Also remember that it takes about 5 minutes for any craving to go away. If you feel like smoking at any time, just try and do soemthing else for 5 minutes and the craving will subside.

I usually find the craving lasts a bit longer than 5 minutes, more like an hour.

keda i think thats some pretty good advice! thats definitely thinking about the psychological dependency and knowing how to manipulate it. The psych is the hardest for me.. quitting a physical addiction is nothing.. its just the mental that is hard for me, which sucks.

babykay.. im on my second month after quitting "cold-turkey." And about the cravings lasting more like an hour than 5 minutes.. i definitely agree with you there. I almost had a cigarette a few days ago because i was wanting one so bad.. and i was wanting one for like.. 2 days straight.(turned out to be because i was PMSing)
Im mad stubborn too though, i think thats why i didnt smoke one. i almost smoked a no nicotine cigarette, which i think is what any smoker that quit that is about to smoke again should do.

But what helps me time to time is telling myself that its my CHOICE to quit smoking, that i dont HAVE to. Sometimes i catch myself thinking "i CANT have a cigarette".. and for some reason it makes me want one more, and stress more. Now i try to tell myself that its not that i CANT have one, its that i DONT WANT TO have one. You know?

Also, I picked up jogging and ive been working out more.. im seeing results from that anddd since ive quit ive noticed that my skin tone is more balanced and even.. I can take rips from a jib or bowl more than i ever could.. things are tasting better and i can smell more things. I have more energy as well. Also, I'm saving 5$ a day.

I just weigh out the pros and even though its hard.. i try to remember that its my choice and that im a strong mufunka n that no addiction is gnna take me over. Also, I find that it helps when you feel like youre gonna smoke a cigarette.. to take a hit from a bowl. i dunno, this is just how its been working out for me. P.S- good luck n i hope it works out

Congratulations on your quit. I quit smoking around ten months ago, cold turkey and not one 'slip-up'. This time was different because I quit for me, myself & I. Not like in the past..quit because I had braces on my teeth and didn't want staining around my teeth...quit because I was pregnant but that wasn't for me, that was for my unborn child. This time it's for me and I really want to do it. I set myself a date and it was months ahead and my quit was totally planned and I stuck to it. It was the day after my 30th birthday
When I quit, I tried to avoid situations where I would normally smoke. eg: out drinking etc.. The hardest habit was not smoking whilst driving. I substituted the ciggies for chewy. Every time I felt like a smoke in the car, i'd reach for the gum. It seemed to work for me and it is no longer an issue for me. When I'm drinking now, I could still easily have a smoke but I tend to put my other "smoking hand" in my pocket so I don't have to worry about what to do with it.
I also have the added bonus of being stubborn. I'm too stubborn to give-in and destroy the 10 months of hard work of done.
Well done on your quit and believe me, it will get easier, over time.

I am so proud of you. I have never smoked but I have eaten myself up to 339lbs and now am down to 242 and still losing. I have done it by dieting and not by surgery. It is hard and I had to be ready to do it. I know with smoking you have to be ready and you where and you can continue to be ready. YOU CAN DO IT. GREAT JOB.
