Does your Siberian Husky bark?  |

 I recently adopted a beautiful Siberian Husky (about a month ago) and I was surprised to find out that he BARKS! This is not the first husky I've owned (he's my second) and I'm a little bit surprised about this. I've researched the breed a bit throughout my life because I've always been so in love with their looks, and I believe the consensus is huskies hardly ever bark. They are supposed to howl and talk with soft oo oo ooo sounds.:) I never heard my first husky bark! never ever ever. He howled however and he enjoyed talking back at me, arguing, etc. My current baby loves to bark. He's quite the opposite of the first as in he hardly ever howls. He's 10 months old at the moment, and I don't know if his personality is going to develop anymore or if he's done growing in all senses of the word. So what's your experience like with huskies? Do yours bark or howl more? I wish mine howled more cause my ears would find it more pleasing hehe.

1.  Julia3269 (181) | 3 years ago |  My Husky doesn't bark much. She's the kind that will invite the burglar into the house but my other dogs wil bark to alert me. She does this moan/growl/whine thing when she wants something.
So when she does bark I pay attention. One evening she was barking like crazy and I went to see what was going on. She was face to face with a snake on the back step. It was a standoff. Neither would move. But I finally grabbed her collar and pulled her in the house, then shouted at the snake, "Go AWAY!!"
Sometimes I will shut the back door not realizing I've left a dog outside. They just stare at the door but I can't hear that. Finally I'll hear a little "Arf!" and go let whoever in the house. lol!

| siberhusky (7) | 3 years ago | you are lucky lol I wish my husky made those sounds instead of the barking he does. (I miss the way my first one talked) He actually barks for attention, when he wants to go out (which is a good thing), when I go outside and leave him behind, and when he wants the chewies the other dogs are playing with (that one is driving me insane, cause he won't try to take the toy from his dog mates, he'll just sit there and bark at them lol). It's going to take some getting used to it I suppose:P | |

| whiteangel4U (44) | 3 years ago |  I have an 8 months old female Husky named Tundra....I laugh all the time from some of the noises she makes. She really doesn't bark at all. I have a 90 pound Black Lab named Jesse who barks ALL THE TIME, and Tundra just looks at him like he's crazy. She on the other hand, will say things that sounds like "mama" and "no". It's funny. the dogs compliment each other very well, and she keeps us all laughing!

| 2. Malamute (40) | 3 years ago |  I've had Northern dogs my whole life and the myth that they don''t bark is just that...a myth! They make all sorts of cool sounds, howls, yips and whatnot but they will definately bark! My current malamute mix barks at the shippers (Fedex,Ups) and at the meter readers!

| 3. houndsgood (597) | 3 years ago |  Yes! They do bark. My parents have two. The older one is crossed with german shepherd. She "talks" more than she barks. They have a puppy also who is seven months old and she barks all the time. Every husky personality is different. At ten months, a dog is not done growing mentally. Doing some training whether one on one just the two of you or going to a class will be a lot of fun for him.

When she is indoors she rarely barks unless she is trying to tell me something with one bark only. She does talk alot and howl alot. Her talking is more like rouw rouw rouw and sometimes she sings. She is so funny. I am trying to teach her to say "momma"

Otherwise he howls, we get sung to every time we come home. He likes to talk and sing to us if he wants attention, but he really only barks when someone is too close to his house. | |
