Are College Books Over Priced?  email this discussion to a friend?

I recently decided to go back to school to get my degree in nursing, and boy, I am payin like $500 plus in the books alone. To top it off, most of the professos don't even use the books. Talk about highway robbery! My kids better get a full scholarship with a book grant or they may have to join the military like I did. It's just crazy. Thank god for used books!

When I started my university we got books for free from the government. But after the 3rd year we starts to pay for it. When I finished I paid a lot, and you're right, most of the professors don't want from us to read the books. So every year when I finished I sold my books to another student who was younger 1 year than me.

when I went to college, the first year I had a scholarship where they paid all my books, but I jacked it up after the first year doing too much partying and had to keep an A and B average and I had a few Cs. I had to pay for my books after that and it kills me that you can't rent them and how they seem to come out with a new edition to the same book every year for a higher price. I had friends in higher classes who had the class before me. I compared books and it pretty much said the same thing but just worded differently. Why is there a need to print new books every year. Like you said half the time you don't read but a chapter or two out the year. the thing i hate the most though is at the end of the year when you go to sell it back and you get $1 for a $100 book that you brought new. When it was like that I ended up keeping them. I have a lot of hardback textbooks still or I'd sell them to other people.

I'm to the point to where I don't even waste my time trying to sell them back. It's like getting rejected, and I hate that feeling. If I buy another $100 book, only to get told I can only sell it back for $2, I am going to scream right there in the book store! Just Kidding, I'll wait until I get to the car..LOL
