How do you know if you aren't depressed, if you've been depressed your whole lif email this discussion to a friend?

I think I have been depressed my whole life. I mean, I didn't cry all the time. But I slept a lot. Ate comfort foods n such. Then being in a bad marriage.. I deffinately knew what depression really was. It wasn't just sleeping a lot. It was easily frustrated, rage, crying, bad thoughts.

But when most of those symptoms go away, and you are eating and sleeping still. How do you know if you are still depressed? You aren't really all that happy.

What is normal? How happy are you supposed to be? How much energy are you supposed to have when you aren't depressed. What is your appetite like when you're not depressed. Will I always be depressed? or THINK I am depressed, when maybe I'm not? Is everyone depressed?

All my meds to is help with rage. I no longer cry anymore. I'm not sure why. Maybe I've just had enough of whats going on that it no longer bothers me as much. But am I still depressed.

How does one know if one is still depressed. Or if one has come out of it, and just doesn't know? Especially when one has struggled with this their whole life.

I think to myself the difference between feeling depressed and actually depressed is being able to get up, get dressed, and not sleep all day or stay in bed. Everyone goes though feelings of a bit of depression but for those that are clinically diagnosed depressed it's much different. For myself, there are days I just stay in bed never get up, crying constantly, and having tons of overwhelming feelings of worthlessness. I am thankfully for the medications now and able to have a somewhat normal life now. I have never been able to completely get rid of my depression feelings but able to control them better with medication so I can not tell you what normal energy and happiness is suppose to be like.=)
If you a feeling a constantly feeling of depression and no change is happening with the medication you are on, perhaps a different medication is needed. I can feel myself going from somewhat normal to slipping into a depression state. Until you have really came out of a depression state then it's hard to tell what's a normal feeling and depressed in my opinion.
I have been on medication for almost 7 years now trying various kinds. It's hard, so many people think it's just like a switch you can flip off. I just wish it was that easy.

We all have our moments of depression. But we should take care that we do not make it serious. Do not entertain thoughts of depression because this often leads to suicide or insanity. Depression only comes in if you allow it. Get out and have some bit of sun and fun. Beat it before it beats you.
