How to make a dog obedient? |
| |
| I tried many ways but in vain. I don't have the mind to beat him. Whenever he wants food he is very obedient but after finishing it he never cares us. Can u suggest any other method other than beating. | | | | | |

| | What type of breed is it? My shepherd is a very good dog and the shepherd/terrier mix is a pain in the as@. Do they get much exercise? This sounds stupid, but, we have a fenced front yard for the dogs to do their business and they were still peeing and pooping religiously in the house!!!! Argh! Then, I started walking them twice a day on the property and instantly - they stopped. Months of steaming and towels and chemicals and that's all it took!!!! Duh! I know, sounds stupid, but, they had a yard. You would think they knew what to do out there. | | | | | | |

| | first you have to work with him and train him and you have to be consistant. use one word commands instead of long sentances because they understand better, it takes time so be paitent and remember to reward for good behavior. good luck to you. | | | | | | |

| | First of all, beating your dog won't do much good. It still won't listen, and most likely just be afraid of you. There are TONS of resources on the internet on how to train your dog if you can't afford a professional trainer. Search the net for your specific problem with your dog, and that should help you. Being consistant with your dog helps, too. Keep a schedule with your dog where things happen at the same time every day. Keep tiny TINY treats in your pocket. It sounds like your dog is very food motivated, so that may help. Good luck! And please don't beat your dog. :P | | | | | | |

| | I agree, beating a dog only makes him distrustful and fearful of people, and more likely to bite. Reward him when he is behaving like you want, and ignore him as much as possible when he is misbehaving. Dogs are like kids, they want your attention and if they have to be "bad" to get it they will. Most dogs aren't really bad, they are just acting like dogs because they haven't been taught any better. It takes a lot of patience to train a dog, and you have to be consistent. Have short training sessions several times a day if possible. It may help to take him to an obedience class and get help from a professional. | | | | | | |

| | I watch a show on the Discovery Channel called Dog wisperer. Cesar knows what hes talking about and can help train dogs. I watched him before getting my dog. Now my dog is a great dog. She listens to me and does what I ask because I tried some of cesars tricks. Please check out his show or you can read about him, what he does, tips for training, ect.. here: http://www.cesarmillaninc.com/index.php ~ Dogs Need: Rules, Boundaries and Limitations...and then affection. ~ What is the most common mistake people make with dogs??....They don’t establish a leadership role. Almost all dog problems come from two things: lack of exercise and lack of leadership. Additionally owners tend to give affection, affection, and more affection, when what the dog really needs is exercise, discipline...and then affection. | | | | | | |
