today the bus driver introduced me to one of the older kids on the bus that my daughter takes to school. the school organizes a special program where for every little kid starting school this year they get an older student to take the little one under their wings. the older kid is responsible to help the little one off the bus at school and get them to where they need to be. they also come get them at the end of the day to put them on the right bus with them so they aren't alone. i can't beleive how great this school system is. there has been so many great oportunities for my daughter to get ready for school and not be scared.
i think i'll be buying a thank you card for this other girl for kierrah to give it to her.

I am continually amazed at the wonderful things you school district is doing for its kindergarden children. That school is really proactive in helping young ones get adjusted and at preventing the hazards that can happen at school. Please know that it sounds like your little one is going to get a great experience!!

i had heard so many great things about this school and i'm glad i chose to put her there. it's not in our school zone. the zones are set up funny, even though it's 5 minutes away they say our school zone is the school on the other side of town which is a 20 min drive. anyway so i had to go through a lot of applications to get her into this school and apply for busing. but i'm glad i went ahead with all of that cause it was well worth it. this school has amazed me allready and it's only the second day

Oh nice to hear that...we seldom see those kinds of students who really take care of the little kids in school...you must be thankful for Kierrah then

thats a really good idea. when i was in school we had what was called the friends program. there was no middle school so when you went to seventh grade you were in the halls with kids all the way up to 12th grade. so when you went from 6th to 7th you were paired with a junior or senior. we met in the mornings and they checked to make sure we did our homework and if we were having any problems.

Hello pop!(",)
I am glad to hear about your story. What is the name of this school? Others should follow this kind of system. In this way they can build friendship with other students in the school and hope that in some way it can help prevent bullying at school.
Great day!(",)

i live in canada, the school board is the french catholic school board of eastern ontario. i think they've done this for all of the schools in this school board around here. they have so many great programs for the little ones to get started. she also attended school camp the week before school where she went 2 hours a day and got to meet the other kids and the teachers. they also had bus safety day and let them practice getting on the bus before the first day of school so they wouldn't be scared getting on with all the other big kids. it's been great

That is a really neat concept that your child's school has! That teaches other kids to be helpful to the little ones instead of teasing and being mean. I hope this idea becomes contagious to the other schools in hopes kids will learn to be helpfull instead of being mean to each other.

This system sound very good. It is always good to know that there is someone there to help you child at almost every turn. The older kids helping the younger ones is a great way to teach responsibility to all. It will also keep the little ones from feeling so alone and scared. When my daughter was in elementry school they had two of the fifth graders go down to the class of the pre K and kindergarden to make sure the little ones got on the buss they needed to be on. I thought that was nice but each child having their own big buddie or big sister so to speack is even better. I know that the ways of your school system is very different from mine and in some ways it sounds like it may be better. Once the newness of going to school wears off everything will fall into place and be fine.

That is awesome to hear that. I don't know if they have that system at my sons school as it wasnt' mentioned at the Open day we attended last week. Our school even had a hard time figuring out where my son should be picked up and so forth i.e. at the top of the street or the other side or end LOL they were suppose to get back to me but haven't. So I am going to go out there early and wait on the side and just wave the bus down LOL then I am going to walk to his school and wait for him to get off the bus. I want to make sure he is comfortable with the bus route and if not then we will walk to school each morning and after school (we are only 5-7 minutes away from the school but they encourage all kids to use the bus system!
