What weed killer do you recommend for keeping weeds from growing in your yard?

Round Up - Here is a picture of Round Up, which I use for killing weeds and preventing weeds from growing.

I have been using Round Up for killing weeds that come up through my patio in the back and around my ac unit. I was wondering if there was anything out there that people found to be more effective so I do not have to keep spraying every few days or so. What would you recommend for killing weeds? Weeds are so annoying? Don't you agree?

Hi kgwat70, I try to not use chemical if I can help it. I have used salt followed by boiling water to kill weeds between the bricks in my backyard. I also heard that peroxide kills weeds though I haven't try that one yet.. For the weeds in the yard itself I don't bother. Unless I had the problem with thistles, dandelions and clovers don't bother me.

I agree with you..chemicals are bad and do go into the soil which also evaporate into the atmosphere..

I have always heard round up was good. You could also try household stuff like vinager, salt, bleach. Don't mix anything, and I am not even sure if it will work, but it is cheaper then using round up all the time if the weeds keep coming back.

weeds are such a source of problem around here too, we cant seem to control them at all. In places where I dont care about growing grass or plants, or where we have laid down stone, we have sprayed vinigar into the areas we dont want anything to grow, it works well, but it will kill anything it touches, so be careful.

This is true, but a little impractial. If you have a dog, their urine will kill the weeds. Maybe you could borrow a neighbor's dog. Yeah, I know, I said it wasn't practical. : )

Too many people think that they need to put chemicals on everything to get rid of "problems" when those people are the problems. I use organic methods . I know that my own is not the neatest but the grass is better than the neighbors that pay companies to put chemical poisons on their lawn. These chemicals will poison not only the weeds but the earthworms and the good bacteria that break down clipping into plant food. And this will also hep to conserve moisture in the ground so that you don't have to waste water needlessly. Also the good bugs will be able to come in and kill the bad bugs that are hurting your lawn and other plants. Insects can become immune to insecticides but they cannot become immune to being eaten. But the chemicals can have long reaching results such as DDT did on Eagle eggs.

I wish I can help you out, Kgwat but I am not much of a gardener myself. But, I hope that you have found a solution by now.

Sorry, I don't own a garden here at this moment. Well, I suppose the best way to kll the weed is to drag it out of the ground instead of useing some weed killer to get rid of it. Since the Weed Killer does no good to the flowers nor the ground at all:) Andy
