dance class now has crazy rules also |

| my daughter will be starting her second year of dance class today. the teacher has put in all new flooring and she is expecting the 3-4 year old kids to stay on a little plexy glass square and and dance on that so they don't ruin the floor. if they don't stay on their square and if the touch the floor at all they have to go sit outside with their parents. this is reduculous. it's a dance studio. if the kids can't dance on the dance floor cause it's new she shouldn't of replaced the floor. i pay for my kid to dance and not to sit with me outside. anyway instead of paying for the entire year i decided to pay month to month this year and i will be pulling her out if the teacher gives her a hard time. | | | | | |

| | i'm not sure what the problem is. i guess it's a new floor and she wants to keep it new. but it's a dance floor for dancing but anyway if she gives us a hard time i will definately sing her up for another school where she can actually dance on the floor. | | | |

| | Dance is about discipline and training your body. If your child is really interested in dance, maybe you should stop interfering and let the teacher do her job. This is a big problem with classes such this and sports. Some parents cannot just drop their children off to learn the organized sport or class that they have chosen for their child to attend. They have to wait and interfer with what is going on. Maybe you should pull her out of the class if it is upsetting you so much. But, why not think of what your daughter wants, and just stop interfering and see how it goes. Maybe your daughter would like to participate and actually learn the discipline of dance. Nothing is easy and she may be proud of her new found love of the dance. Is this what your daughter wants to do, or is this what YOU want your daughter to do. There is a difference. | | | | | | |

| | your not getting it. this is not a place to drop her off and leave her to the teacher. the teacher tells us we have to stay in the next room and if she has problems with our kids she sends them to come sit with the parents. so i'm not interfeering, the teacher expects us to handle our kids when they are there. | | | |

| | shop you're totally missing the point here as well, 3 and 4 year olds are going to make mistakes and they may 'accidentally' step off their square, you can't be that strict for stepping off a square, and if they are to step off send them out with their parents, that's not right. If she didn't want kids to be on the dance floor, a) she shouldn't have replaced the floor b) she better give them a bigger area to dance in. Dancing is about discipline, but 3 and 4 year olds are going to make mistakes, maybe she should have partitioned a room for them to dance in with flooring she doesn't care about as much? | | Thatsounds kind of strange but at least she is not expecting the 3 and 4 yo to have mastered the art of levitation. Why is it that only the 3 & 4 year olds are limited to the plexiglas? It would seem to me that the larger the kid the more the damage. At this age, dancing should be fun and punishing a kid for dancing on the floor of a dance studio seems counterproductive to me. What kind of dance class is this....tap? | | | | | | |

| | i'm not sure if it's just the younger kids or not that have to stay on the plexy glass. it's a jazz and tap class. so for half the class they do wear tap shoes. | | | |

| | If that is a properly finished hardwood floor, there should not be a problem. It should have several tough coats of poly on it...when it needs to be redone just sand and refinish. I had friends as a kid who tapped danced all over their house and their floors suffered no ill effects. I would be more concerned about those women in their stiletto heels then the taps on the shoes. | | | |

| | I can understand why you would be upset about this, but in order for children to learn in dance, they have to be able to listen and follow rules. Maybe the teacher is just doing this temporarily to get the girls to realize that dance is serious stuff, not all fun and games. I know when my daughter took dance, the teacher wasn't very firm with them and some of the girls just ran wild. Maybe this is her way to put more control into her lessons. If you are upset with this, talk to the teacher. She may have a great reason for inforcing this new rule. | | | | | | |

| | she told me that her reasoning was not to ruin the new floor. she wants to keep it new as long as possible so she doesn't want people dancing on the actual floor. it's not that i'm upset. i just think if my little girl goes off the plexy glass for a sec and gets put in time out i don't think that's fair. she's just little and might go off of it while dancing and not really realize right away and i'm paying a lot for her to go dance there and i don't want to waste my money while she sits in time out for going on the floor. that's when i will get upset about it | | | |

| | If this is the case, it is rediculous! If my daughter were sent out to sit with me once, I would be out of there and never return. | | | |

| | I dare say she's going to get a lot of complaints with that, and I don't blame you. I agree if kids couldn't dance on the floor or go outside their square, I'd be demanding a refund for that class as well.... I think the teacher needs to lighten up and realize that they are there to learn dancing and not to be perfect. I'd be having it out with her. Just me....I hope it goes well for you and your daughter. Mooch | | | | | | |

| | I find this strange too. If you are paying for the leasons and it is a dance studio than the instructor should no that the floor is going to be danced on. The other thing is that I would not pay for leasons that my daughter did not take. My daughter took dance when she was in elementry school too. However, the class was held in the school gym. I have some very good pictures of my daughters dance class. She hates when I pull them out to show her friends. I do it any way. I also agree that if she is not having fun that she should not go. Give her a few classes to see if the teacher gets better and then tell the teacher that you are not paying for leasons. I also do not understand how you can put kids on a square because the dance usually calls for the kids to move around and not stand in one place. Good luck and I hope the teacher changes her mind and this is just till the floor dries or something. | | | | | | |

| | LOL. At first blush, that does seem ridiculous. I'd want to know how large the plexiglass square is as opposed to how many kids are expected to dance on it. Good luck to this teacher anyway, if she can reign in three and four year olds to that extent. It sounds pretty goofy. | | | | | | |
