Hello friends,I consider living a quality life with peace and happiness is the greatest art of all.Do you agree or disagree. If you agree, then do you think our school should include chapters on art of living? If you donot agree, then what you think should be included in school syllabus to make a child a good and intelligent humanbeing that is needed to live a peaceful and happy life?

First and foremost I think children should be taught etiquette and mannerisms at school itself alongwith a proper sense of hygiene and public decency. I see that you are from India and Kolkata. Have you ever noticed how indecent and ill-mannered we Indians are inspite of our tall claims on Namaste and respecting elders and etc etc? Bad and inadequate manners in public life, deteriorate the quality of citizens and good quality citizens make a happy nation. Are we happy as a nation? I don’t think so. Inspite of the rupee gaining and India signing nuclear deals, just see how irritated the people are on the roads. Anyone and everyone you meet is so rude, they don’t even know how to talk to strangers. People are no longer bothered if you are lying bleeding on the road and even if they take you to the hospital, you will get stuck in the red tape. No one takes any initiative to help another person, people are just running after their own petty selfish goals. In western countries too people are not bothered with what happens to you, but there at least you have emergency support systems and people are held accountable. So I think if we are to live and die happily and peacefully, we should start instilling a sense of discipline, etiquette and fellow-feeling in our children. Adults should also be tagged along.

Hello sudiptacallingu,Thanks for your response.Etiquette, mannerisms, sense of hygiene, commonsense are all part of the art of living dont you think so?I can tell you nobody will claim that they are happy with their own nations performance. Etiquettes like Namaste in our country or Shaking hands or Hugs in western countries if performed as an artificial gesture without realising the meaning and true human feelings, makes no sense either in India or in US or any countries of the world.Fifty years back there were problems today there are problems and infuture too there will be problems. But fifty years back there were also good, intelligent humanbeings who knew how to deal problems intelligently and hence they succeded, today the competetion is more but the oppertunities are also abundunt globally and there are people who are getting success just by working hard and by performance and solving their problems with patience and intelligence, and in future too there will be problems. Dont you think its time to include the art of living chapters in the school syllabus, atleast the child will be aware the difference between human and inhuman properties. With out going in detailes I can tell you that buying an AK47 is much more easier in London and in some US states than in Kolkata. The incident of divorce, child abuse, rape, murder, robbery are much much more in quantity in Western world, but they are very much habituated with these things. In that respect India is still considered a peaceful country with peaceful people and if you talk about terrorism then Europe and US even Australia have larger terrorist threats than us. Therefore humanity is lacking not only in our country and cities but its a world trend now but the most scary part is, the number of inhuman and unconcious people are rising in every country.

I am from Kolkata myself so i know what i am talking about dahling! what i dont know is how western countries cope up with terrorist threats but i do know that men over there just do open their fly on the road and starting peeing wihout a thought for women like us passing by. people over there just dont open gutka sachets, pour into their mouth and throw the sachets on the ground, people over their dont just spit anywhere and everywhere (without a care whether that spit is landing on you), people just dont squat their children on the road for toilet, people just dont cross roads (with children in tow) anywhere and everywhere, drains dont overflow with filth round the year, garbage doesnt accumulate at every corner ...Oh i could go on and on. I am actually disgusted with the way we behave like complete monkeys in this country. I dont care about terrorist threats to western countries, India is not very immune either, but i definitely care about the deplorable civic conditions in this city.

Hello sudiptacallingu,Thanks for your reply.I was born on Calcutta/Kolkata,but broughtup and live at another city, but we have still a house or two in Kolkata and I sometimes visit the city and I feel the city very warm hearted and I have lot of friends there.I have few questions to you why are you so frustrated yourself? If you think that monkeys live in Kolkata then why do you yourself live there? If there are so many unhygenic problems in Kolkata, being a young man what have you done yourself to erradicate those problems or your goal is to criticise everybody around you?Being an educated man you too have some responsibilities towards your city and country,a few friends of mine in kolkata have formed a group and they are trying to educate the small street children with their own small way by saving money from their salary. How can you forget that you yourself too are part of people and if you consider everybody as monkey mentality then dont you think that being a humanbeing its your responsibility to try to educate atleast one monkey from millions of monkeys you know?So whats your achievment in your life a good educational degree/tag and a agood salary packet at the end of the month and a role of a smart self claimed humanbeing?wow.Somebody somewhere said that no two men are equal and also everybody has his/her own opinions and realisations therefore a member in a discussion of mylot commented Einstein two times mathematics failed foolish brain guy, its his/her own views, we are not enemy as your time is precious my time is precious too so lets close this topic here and if you believe in winning and defeat then you win I lose as neither you can change my mentality and realisations nor I could yours.

I think that Living a quality life with peace and happiness is an ideal... such an ideal that when is here there is nothing else to reach... and then you become bored and annoyed... and that sucks... so what are you saying is an ideal... hence, it shouldn't be reached... cos life is full of ugly things that you just can't ignore... good luck:)

Hello Dan_ul,Thanks for your response, and you have strong points and I agree with you,but I try to follow certain strategies which has worked for me till now to a great extent.I must share with you one of them.First of all we should realise ourselves that no two men are equal so there could be difference in opinions in any relationships, but choosing the right friends or right associates with healthy knowlegeble attitudes helps a lot to avoid ugly situations in life to a great extent, and the ugly incidences or bad experiences those we face inspite of all precautions, even after living an honest intelligent disciplined life styles are due to our bad destiny and I have really no explanations for those.

I quite agree with you on that one, Humbleme. Too bad not everyone in the world is willing to live by the same principle. That would be absolutely wonderful. I am looking forward to the day when such peace and happiness will exist in the world. Hopefully, I wouldn't have to wait for too long, considering I am not going to live that long.
