Help Please! Rudy Giuliani Says Illegal Immigration is NOT a Crime.  

Well, the way I am reading what you have posted is that RG is just using semantics, but he is also telling the truth. He said that illegal immigration is not a crime--that must mean that although it is illegal to come in without proper papers there is no law that says "Coming in without going through the proper steps shall be punished by fines or imprisonment." He also says if there was a law we could not afford to prosecute it. He is saying that he plans to stop it, but not prosecute it, but he will prosecute and deport anyone who is here illegally who commits a crime, and deport them. Politics is confusing. I may not have shed any light either. Thanks for bringing this up.

To me it sounds like he is talking out of both sides of his mouth, to suit whatever event he may be at. Unfortunately alot of politicians do that. However, he does make some valid points, and illegal immigration is a very hot topic for this country right now. Hopefully someone will nail him down at one of these debates, as to what he really thinks and what he will do about it.

I would love to walk up to him and ask "if they aren't illegal why do you keep calling them illegal immigrants?" If they weren't doing something that isn't legal; they wouldn't be called illegals would they?

As usual. A politician trying to have it both ways. He HAS to watch out for his biggest campaign contributers which is big business. He will bought and paid for.
Here is the exact law which is part of out U.S. Codes;
Section 1325. Improper entry by alien (just type section 1325 in google)
(a)Improper time or place; avoidance of examination or inspection; misrepresentation and concealment of facts.
Any alien who (1) enters or attempts to enter the United States at any time or place other than as designated by immigration officers, or(2) eludes examination or inspection by immigration officers, or(3) attempts to enter or obtains entry to the U.S. by a willfully false or misleading representation or the willful concealment of a material fact, shall, for the first commission of any such offense, be fined under title 18 or imprisoned not more than 6 months, or both, and, for a subsequent commission of any such offense, be fined under title 18, or imprisoned not more than 2 years, or both.
(b) covers more penalties.
(c) Marriage fraud
Any individual who knowingly enters into a marriage for the purpose of evading any provision shall be imprisoned for not more than years, or fined not more than 250,000.00 or both.
(d) Any individual who knowingly establishes a commercial enterprise for the purpose of evading any provision shall be imprisoned for not more than 5 years or fined, or both.
He either does NOT KNOW the law or is purposely stating it wrong. Which makes him a lier and NOT suited for President.

Seems like most of us are in agreement here. I would have posted sooner but something came up. I'm telling everyone, watch these candidates and your current leaders carefully. They are acting nuttier by the second and this is just another drop in the proverbial giant bucket.

Well... he is right. It should be a crime... but it is not a crime.

The reason that we don't make it a crime... is that it would cost us money prosecuting them and putting them in jail. And it would not achieve anything.

It is much simpler to arrest them and deport them.

The only reason those people keep coming in the US is because a section of your community is willing to give them work. They employ them as slave labour... pay them next to nothing... and make a huge profit.

American capitalists have replaced the black slave trade with the illegal slave trade. As long as Americans don't come to grip with the fact that slavery is a big no-no... the slaves will keep coming.

Instead of building a wall... you should treaten any American citizen with a jail sentence if they are caught employing an illegal. Once there is no work for them... they will stop coming.

Giuliani's statements are typical of any politicians who do not really want to displease a certain sector of society and lose their votes. It's a play of words really. Anyway, the fact that New York City adopted a policy of giving medical treatment to people without questioning the legality of their presence in the country speaks for itself.

Most of you got it wrong. Guliani was right. It isn't a crime. It isn't even a felony or a misdemenor. It is a violation. And when he was mayor of new york, He authorized police to contact I.C.E. and know what happened? They wouldn't even show up to deport the captued individual. I.C.E. told them " we are no longer comming in to pick these people up. So what was they new york city police department suposed to do? Round up sdome 400,000 illegal New York citizens and deport them them selves? They did not have the authority to do it.

Can you say conflicting??? On one hand he wants to get stiffer security to keep them out, yet he doesn’t see they are committing a crime by being here and then this ....

Sorry but he seems to be trying to play both sides of the issue. He seems to be trying to snuggle up to the bleeding hearts as well as those that want these criminals out of here. The proof seems very much in the pudding, and I have to ask myself do I really want a person in office that seems to be so conniving now?

Seems to me like it should be a federal crime.
and now is veiws stink it would take a long time to build a fence that long but if all states got to going on it it wouldnt take all the long and then start deporting all the illigales and fast!
