Halloween By Rob Zombie ( my review and some questions )  |

 I'm not your typical movie reviewer as I suck doing 'em, so, I'm just typing up some stuff about that I thought was good and what not.
I watched Halloween by Rob Zombie tonight and I must admit at first I was kindy iffy about this idea of Rob messing with a classic such as Halloween. However, he did a damn good job and I have only one complaint.
The first ten to twenty minutes shows what happens before what would be the first Halloween movie. The movie shows how life was for Michael as a child and how the people around him treated him. My complaint that I spoke of earlier was that the little boy ( Daeg Faerch )to me sorta looks like a little girl. Not much of a complaint, heh? Even though with the girlish looks, Daeg delivers a performance that makes you believe he's sadistic as hell but yet the life Michael led at home almost makes you want to hug the little killer.
Sheri Moon Zombie ( Rob's wife ) played Deborah Myers/Michael's mom. She shows to be a loving mother who loves her son muchly and shows the devastation any mother would after learning what would become of the rest of her family.
The thing that I loved about this Halloween is that Rob brought back Danielle Harris. In case, you don't know who she is - she played in Halloween 4 and 5 as Jamie Lloyd, Michael's niece and daughter of Laurie who was believed to be dead. This time around however, Danielle played Laurie's friend Annie.

1.  Cognition (162) | 3 years ago |  I haven't seen it, and I'm not sure if I want to see it. I'm a big fan of Zombie's music, but so far I haven't seen a film from him that I have enjoyed.
I watched the trailer, and it seemed fine, but didn't seem to be anything out of the ordinary. That being said, I wasn't a big fan of the original Halloween film either.
There has been such a trend the last ten years or so to remake old classic films, which I find a bit problematic, 'cause if the original film is a classic, there is no way a remake can live up to that.

 trutallica (132) | 3 years ago | I agree but this one is more of a beginning than anything; even though it does show what was shown in the original.
I'm with you, for the most part I don't like re-makes of classics but I assume the reason Hollywood does it is to bring in younger fans of that movie but that's easily solved by us (old) farts showing 'em the originals.;)

2.  wiccania (2780) | 3 years ago |  I haven't seen it yet, but I really want to. Reading your review makes me want to see it even more. I'm really interested in seeing Rob Zombie's take on the story. I assume it's gorier than the original. The original had some gore, but it was subtle, you know?

| 3. cynddvs (2284) | 3 years ago |  I saw it a week after it came out with a close friend of mine. We are both die hard fans of the original so we were very crital of Rob Zombies version.
When I first starting watching it I was getting really pissed off. I liked that Rob Zombie tried to give a little insight into Michael Myers past but it kind of bothered me that he changed things so much. In the original movie Michael Myers is a psycho killer and noone really knows why. He appears to come from an average family and there is no background given about him which makes the movies all that more mysterious and creepy. I wasn't sure how I felt about the new one with him killing his sister, her boyfriend and his step dad. I felt Rob Zombie changed too much.
And the whole part after he esacpes and returns to Haddonfield was not nearly scary enough. I personally think Rob Zombie spend too much time with Michael Myer's background in the beginning and not enough time on the creepy stalking of Laurie and her friends.
I will say Rob Zombie did a good job at making the movie his own. Had I not seen the original and been such a huge fan maybe I would have liked it a little more.
My question for everyone who has seen the movie is this. Well 2 questions actually lol.
1. Do you think he killed Dr. Loomis?
2. Do you think he set the remake up for a sequel?

| 4. vicki2876 (3248) | 3 years ago |  I watched it the other day. First off it isn't scary at all. But it is gorier that the first. I also didn't like how he changed the beginning. It was supposed to be an average family, which to me is spookier than the traditional dysfunctional background of a serial killer. I do laugh when you wrote, he looked like a girl cause we were thinking the same thing. Right in the middle of want was supposed to be a spooky scene, I said who hates the hair? and we all laughed and agreed so it did distract us from whatever effect he was going with at the time.
As for the questions from the post above me, I don't think he killed the doctor and I don't think he set it up for a sequel at all. In fact I was thinking it wasn't over because I was assuming there was going to be a set up. Oh well, what is nice about it is that it makes me want to go back and watch the original again.

It's coming out soon on DVD, I plan to buy it.
I saw it as soon as it came out in the theater.
I think it was really good and that it's one of his best
movies so far.
