She developed this when she was 2 years old and has been othered since by it.Weve tried almost everything there i for this and finally bought a special cream from the dermatologist,it works fine sometimes but she still has it.As soon as we think its going to clear up,it comes back.I dont know why but i ve been thinking for the last while that she could be allergic to margarine.I switched to maragarine 2 years ago with canola oil in it.She eats alot of bread with butter on it like 3 slices a day and trys to get into the butter in the fridge.I am going to try to wean her off of it for a couple of days just to see if its that, thats causing her skin to become dry around the folds and elbows of her arms and underarms and behind the knees.Have you any good clues to help with?Has your child had this? The doctor said they usually grow out of it,but she doesnt want to wear short sleeve shirts because shes too shy and the other children look at her rash causing her to feel insecure about it.I would appreciate your advise and input on helping my daughter regain her securness and not to grow up insecure of how she looks.Thankyou!...peanutjar.

my 5 year old is the same. It's not a bad case. She gets it on the inside of her arms and behind her knees. Cortizone cream seems to work on the outbreaks but she is very conscious of it. Now that she is five and she bathes herself, I don't notice the outbreaks as much. when she suggests that she wants to wear long sleeves to school, I question her and then she shows me. We then apply the cream. We're fortunate that she's not as bad as some. Best of luck to you. Just keep her chin up and let her know that she is beautiful. As I am sure she is.

Oh, a suggestion that my mom gave me. Get an aloe plant and put the plant guts directly on the skin. It works for softening the area without burning. Then apply the medicine.

My girls both have had it. My oldest is 3 and she got it shortly after birth and she has grown out of it. I had to use a prescription cream on her for awhile. Then, my 2nd daughter, who is 9 months, has it worse than my other one. its bad on her legs. We use a different pediatrician now and she said to try all the over the counter stuff before getting a prescription. she said the script would have to be a steriod and she didnt want to give that because it makes their skin thin. So, i have tried it all and spent too much on some stuff. What works? a tube of Suave cream that has natural collodial oatmeal in it for 97 cents a tube. Its good for 24hrs and the next day after using it the red and dryness started going away.

I know exactly how she feels. I had eczema for several years, and I finally grew out of the bad patches when I was in 7th or 8th grade. I only get it in patches seasonally now. I remember how hard it was for me in elementary school and middle school to go around with all those horrible patches on my skin. I used to hate hotter months because I would have to wear shorts and t-shirts and I always felt so insecure. I had it horribly on my arms and legs. I went to a dermatologist when I was in 4th or 5th grade and they gave me some powerful cream. I think it was the prescription level of Eucerin. He told me most kids grow out of it, but that doesn't help you to deal with the feelings of insecurity on a daily basis. It's sad to hear that she feels insecure so young. Maybe you can let her wear capris or children's bermuda shorts and three quarter sleeved shirts. I know they are hotter than regular shorts or t-shirts, but it might help her to feel better about herself. Most importantly, tell her she's beautiful, no matter what. She's young enough now to learn to grow with it and accept it, because she will eventually not have to worry with her eczema. Good luck to you guys.:)

I too have eczema and I was bothered by it durring high school (not wanting to wear short sleeves) but high school you still have to change for P.E. the only thing I found was Eucerin its kinda expenceive but it works and I have never had any burning feeling from it and Ive been using it for 10 years or longer. They have several different fourmulas to choose from I like the original or the auqaphor formulas the best. More resently they came out with a calming ictch releif one I have yet to try it but I would imagine it works well. Also baking soda in the tub with your daughter about 2 tablespoons and NO bubble bath also IVORY soap the bar soap that floats (LOL) my daughter gets a kick out the floating soap! But it has no dyes or sents so it doesnt irritate the sensitive skin. the baking soda is good in a cool tempatured bath when her skin is really bothering her. Thats all things that I have found in my experience with eczema in the bast 10 or so years and trust me its been trial and error for me=) Also does your daughter have astma? Because generally eczema and astma coinside with one and other. Good Luck! Oh one last thing try any of the new methods you find from us mylotters on a small part of her body before putting it all over her. Just incase beacuse obviously everyones body is different and stuff that works for me might not for her and I and you too would hate for her to end up hurting more and Im sure that goes for all of those who posted. So Goood Luck!

My husband and daughter both have eczema. My husbands has never really gone away, but has gotten better. I have tried all kinds of stuff with my daughter. Cetaphil...a complete waste of money. The biggest thing is to make sure your using a cream and not a lotion. And make sure the first ingredient is NOT water. We have found body butter type creams work the best for our daughter. Also...you should not bath them on a daily basis that dries out the skin. And put the cream on them immediately after they get out of the bath. You can also try vaseline with a cream over it. That may help...but only if its in areas that can be covered. My doctor says the best stuff..if when you rub your hands together and it leaves a "film" on your hands. If you can still see it. Thats why I like the body butter. You don't need a lot and you can see it all over. I have to wipe my hands on a towel after because its so thick. Oh, try using fragrance free soaps. Cetaphil soap works pretty well. I hope it gets better!!

I get eczema around my nose very bad, and I use to go get a cream from the dermatologist that worked wonders. But my insurance didn't cover it.....anyway I use Curel lotion now. I works perfect!!! I started using it like three years ago, and it's also way cheaper than the percription thing! Oh and I don't wash my face AT ALL, I can only use warm or cold water on it!

I know the prescriptions costs a bundle and heavy on the wallet when you dont have any insurance to cover it.:)
