I say that because all of my life I have been really bad about starting projects, not finishing, starting something else, and bouncing back and forth between a bucnh of different stuff. Eventually it all would get done, but thinsg would sit around untouched and unfinished for months and even years! so therefor - I am putting an end to all of these projects one by one and all of them are good thinsg I am proud of having made. Well, I finally resolved to stick to no more than one project in each of the different hobbies I have at a time. I realized just this morning that I have finally finished all of the incomplete crochet stuff I had started (I'm down to 2 tiny left over balls of yarn!) I am almost finished with all of the cross stitch stuff I have had going, scrap booking is an ongoing process as I am always taking more pics, so that one doesn't count, and my quilting and sewing are the next things on my list to finish the undone projects. My question is this: Has anyone else ever had this problem?? How did you solve it? Also - did this bad habit ever return?? Just wondering...

Mine aren't really hobbies they are jobs like getting the window ledges painted, the windows cleaned, the wheel barrel painted. While I am finishing one job others are getting behind.

I do that too!! I'll be cleaning in one area, think to myself, well, since I already have this out... go to something else, and sometimes never finish the room i started in!! I swear it's like a mild form of ADD, I just can't keep focus sometimes.

I can stick with something for a long time if I like doing it like working in the yard. I can also stick with things that have a deadline for me.

I have been super-craft-woman for most of my life... my joy was creating. I also had boxes of 'unfinished synphonies'... but I knew I'd finish them someday.
Six years ago, I broke my wrist. I've had 2 surgeries and now know that it will never be right. So after I sat and pitied myself for a few years, I went after those orphaned projects, and am using them now for my own kind of rehabilitation...
They are all almost finished in my mind... the fabric selection, color choices, measuring and preparing are all taken care of, so its easy for me to pick one up and carry on from where I left off. Luckily I still had the notes I made, so I could get whatever else I needed to finish them out.
I also gave a few away to people who wanted to try the cross stitch, or the crochet, or the embroidery. These pieces were less frightening for them than starting from scratch, and some have picked up new hobbies.
It may take me a lot longer, but someday I'll be finished with the 'unfinished'... and will be looking for my NEXT project!

Sorry to hear about your wrist and surgeries, but glad to hear about your self imposed rehab! You definetly took the go get 'em attitude and it sounds like you are having lots of luck so far! It's sad to admit, but I had to go out for supplies yesterday (the dog ate the thread I needed to finiah a project) and while I was at the craft store I picked up a new project!!! Oh no! I have done a bad thing!! But at least this has a godd reason behind it - it's going to be my niece's first christmas stocking! See, I am already moving on - Good luck in all your crafting endeavors!

TY for the honor!
I went with my sister to buy supplies for her party, and guess what?? I only bought some beads, I promise! But since I have a rolling red tool box full of them already, I am just a tad bit ashamed!LOL! At least I can use them for my altered books, which I AM working on. Some supplies just refuse to stay out of my cart!
We might as well face it... we are so addicted... but maybe addicted more to the possibilities, rather than the finished articles?

I too have a similar problem. When I first got married, I spent a lot of time alone, so I started to teach myself how to do needlework, crocheting, cross stitch, quilting, sewing, and knitting. Some I enjoyed a lot more than others. Counted cross stitch was my all time favorite. I have tons of patterns on hand, and several started projects. I always say I will get them done, so far I have not. Quilting was a big one, I have made about 15 quilts for babies and youngsters and 5 for adults. I sewed clothes for my children for years, made formals for weddings, dresses for the girls in the family and my MIL.

I look forward to the day that I can go through every single project that I have and complete it. I too broke my wrist lately and recuperating fairly well. This typing is helping as part of my therapy. Since it is my right wrist, I am really trying to get my range of motion back so I can do things well again.

When I go shopping, I still have to watch for those supplies to my crafts from jumping into my cart. Sometimes my husband goes with me to remove them so I don't buy them. Until I complete what I have there is no sense buying more.

So good luck fellow crafters. It is best to complete whatever project you are working on before moving on. I have learned the hard way!!

I am so much a true Gemini - needing constant new, fresh stimulation. And this is so true when it comes to cross stitching. I love opening a new chart, breaking out the colors, and getting it started.

Doing work online is taking nearly all my time out of each day from me. It leaves little to do cross stitching. I have so many projects started and those I want to do. I'm even creating my own ornaments. I was doing Halloween ones, but won't have enough done in the next few weeks to make it worth my while to try and sell on ebay. *sighs*

Yes, Me! i love doing cross stitch but there are times that i got impatient especially when things that i need are not available, like thread and stuffs. In fact i have one unfinished work the title is "Querubin". I have not touched it for about 5 years now. I dont know when i can finish or if i can ever finish it.....

Argh! Yes, I have this problem. I'm sure it's a genetic flaw. I blame my mum! :)

The problem with my cross-stitching is that I always see something else lovely I want to do and then find it really hard to focus on finishing my current project.

I've just doubled my chances of getting distracted, by starting to convert my own artwork to cross-stitch patterns. It's taking a lot of willpower to see the project from start to finish ... from the artwork, to the designing, and then the statching ... without wanting to go off at a tangent and explore a new idea.

Having a partner who takes an interest in my work helps. He's always asking how it's going and likes to see my progress. I guess I always was a "people-pleaser!" ;)
