Does anyone else here root for the underdogs?  |

|  I've been a huge racing fan for years but I have to admit my interest in Nascar has been dropping off a bit the past few years. It seems it's always the same handful of drivers winning every race and there are only a handful of "super teams" that win everything! Two of my favorites, Dale Jarrett and Bobby Labonte are not "also-rans" and hardly ever mentioned and some of the other guys I like are never even acknowledged unless they wreck or blow an engine. If I tell people I like Robbie Gordon, John Andretti or Dave Blaney they look at me like I'm from outer-space. But I don't care, it takes 43 cars to make a field and everyone who makes the field should get at least a mention or two. Is there anyone here who is for anyone other than the Hendrick team or Junior? I'd like to hear from all you fans who root for someone who doesn't have all the big bucks and always run up front!

| |  Annie,I have been and remain a fan of Dale Jarrett but there comes a time when a particular drivers career is running down and luck or circumstances takes them out of the hunt.
Their time is passing so you must choose a new warrior to root for otherwise as you've said you would lose interest.I now have declared Tony Stewart as my Favorite.However that in no way takes away the respect and admiration I have had for Dale and look forward to his broadcast career.
This occurs in all forms of sports and entertainment.We've all heard the saying about "15 minutes of Fame".If you love a particular for of sport or entertainment you'll continually find various people to cheer for over time.
There is also another aspect to consider and that is the fact that people love a winner.It makes them feel like a winner .
It is apparent to me that you've followed the Nascar Auto Racing Game for a while and all the drivers you mentioned previously are terrific except maybe for John Andretti.I personally haven't seen him as exceptional in any way.
Then Again comes the luck factor.He's never been on a Quality Team either.It may have been interesting had he made better choices.

| | I know what you're saying about careers winding down and I agree with picking new "heroes" as time passes. I'm also a fan of Tony Stewart, I really like his attitude. Some people call him cocky but I like that he refuses to be made into the corporate image, or whatever you want to call it. I guess I personally go by a driver's personality and appearance - I don't mean only liking someone who's handsome, but more of appearing to ber genuine and sincere. I'm looking forward to Dale Jarrett's broadcast career as well, I think he'd make a good actor, I really enjoyed his UPS commercials. I guess what makes me not as interested as I used to be is that there are so few new winners or upset victories. I think it's a shame the less popular drivers don't get a bit more airtime so maybe they'd attract more fans and sponsors. Gee, am I making any sense to you...LOL

I don't know how you feel about the new rules but I feel that if someone can invent something that will help their team and it will pass safety inspections than they should be allowed to use that advantage.
The other teams will learn about it quick enough to catch up or invent something of their own. Susan
