Do You Brush Your Dog's Teeth? |
| |
| My newest dog is a little over a year old now, and she has really nice white teeth. The vet said that I need to start brushing them, or they won't stay so nice and white. I have never brushed any of the dogs I have had before, and there teeth were always fine. Milkbones, and things like that kept them pretty clean. So I ended up buying some doggie toothpaste and a brush, and tried to brush her teeth...she seemed to like the toothpaste, but wasn't to happy about the rest. It was really hard to do. I wonder if in time she will get used to it. And how often am I supposed to do this? O know it can't be twice a day like I do! Anybody ever brush there dog' teeth before? | | | | | |

| | No ive never brushed my dogs teeth before. I have never even heard of this. I dont think my dog would let me brush his teeth! He would probably bite me, lol. I didnt even know they had dog toothpaste or brushes, this is all very new to me. I would be calliing the vet back or going there and asking him/her all these questions. I know they have a lot of dog snacks that are supposed to be good for the teeth. I will stick to these. | | | | | | |

| | I brush my dog's teeth once a day. The best way to get them use to it is to first put some toothpaste on your finger and let them lick it off. Then put some on the brush (a finger brush works well) and let them lick it off. Give them some time to get use to the brush and then give it a go. Do a little at a time and soon enough they will get use to it. | | | | | | |

| | The vet reccomended it to be done and then she told me the cost of having a dog's teach cleaned. At the clinic here it costs about $400. I decided she wss just going to have to get use to teach brushing because it's cheaper. | | | |

| | I also got a special toothbrush and toothpaste for my dog. I try to brush her teeth 3x a week, if I can. Its a bit difficult but is possible. I just find that I have to be fast and know where I really need to concentrate on with the toothbrush. | | | | | | |

| | We have two dogs, and I have brushed their teeth before. Now, Dog #1 is a HUGE baby. He is about 12 years old and has no desire to be maintained. Doing any type of maintenance on him is usually a two person job (aside from bathing him - for some reason, he's okay with that). I asked the vet if I should continue to mess with this, and he said it didn't matter if I did. He inspected his teeth and told me they looked great, and not to worry about it. Dog #2 is a completely different story. She loves being groomed. She loves ANY attention, and I can do whatever I want to her. She also loves the taste of toothpaste. She's so easy! But I had the vet check her teeth too, and he said she didn't need it either, so I don't bother with her teeth anymore. She does have awful breath though, so I occasionally give her something minty (she loves those breath strips!). So, it's been a month since you started this discussion. Has your task gotten any easier? | | | | | | |
