Have you watched this movie?

Yes, I have seen this movie many times. I own a copy of it, so I watch it at least once a year. I also own a copy of the book, and I read it at least once a year as well. I, like you, prefer the book to the movie...there are more details in the book, things left out of the movie which I believe are very important to the story.

Actually I have never seen the movie or read the book.

I've both watched this movie and read the novel for many times.I agree that the book is more outstanding than the movie.It contains more things,such as Scarlette's first son and daugther,and I think these can help us understand her more clearly.
Although the movie doesn't show the novel overall,we can't deny that it's a really good one.I like Vivien Leigh.She made me feel that she was Scarlette,a real Scarlette.

Regardless of what the movie says, I consider it as a wonderful piece of art. A story so well told, has been presented so picture perfect,is just amazing. It's not easy to convert a book into a movie. Many films based on books have failed. For eg, The Runaway Jury and Da Vinci Code failed miserably inspite of the books having done really well. Obviously, Gone with the wind speaks of courage, but at the same time, the woman was too self-centered. There is a similar theme on femininity in an Indian film which was nominated for the Oscar the first time. It was called Mother India and am sure it deserved an Oscar too. Even that movie spoke about a village woman and her farmer husband who had 4 children. Her husband loses both his hands and then commits sudicide and it's up to her now to bring all the children up and one of her sons becomes a dacoit, but in the end it's the mother who takes the extra step of killing him for the betterment of the society.:)
