What do you think about driving when you're older?

Do you think there should be a cutoff age for your driver's license. Or a procedure that should be followed after a certain age? I personally feel that we should go through a driver's test every two years after the age of sixty. That's just my thoughts on it, how about you?

It depends on how alert the person is. My grandfather had his DL taken too late. most of us seen that he was getting too much memory loss for him to still be driving the man is 76 years old, how ever my uncle thought we were all crazy. because he had never driven with him and seen him run lights, drive over curbs, go down one way strats etc.
That is until he got in a accident in front of my uncles house and broke his arm.
since his DL was taken away and cut up, bless his soul though his mind is going more each day. He gets lost and confused, he is truely getting very sick...but i am glad he is not driving anymore

I think the vision test should be a little harder to pass for driving. My grandfather can't see a thing even with his glasses on and he still passes the vision test at the DMV. What does that say about what other driver's they're putting on the road? I think there should definitely be stricter regulations for older drivers as they start to lose their vision and response times.

I think that there are as many young drivers who shouldn't have a license! I've always found it strange that if we can pass the driving test at age 16 (or whenever) then we're pretty much in for life as long as you don't relocate or anything. I think maybe a lengthier period than 2 years, but a regular re-test for adults might be a good thing. Anything can happen at any age. My father was in a care facility for more than a year and came out physically much weaker than he had been before, not surprisingly. None of us would dream of letting him drive a car. BUT he was able to go to the DMV and get a new license with no questions asked! (We still don't let him drive)

Statistically speaking, Americans are living to be older and older... so the number of elderly drivers out there is growing. That being said, I think it is in the interest of everyone's safety to institute additional testing for driving law knowledge (they do change over the years) and ability to handle the vehicle safely, as well as vision tests and questions about medications required. I would like to live to a ripe old age, and also not endanger other people who might also want to live a nice long life. If you can't pass the tests, you shouldn't be out there driving... I don't know what the age should be to start, or how often, but I feel strongly that something needs to be done.
