Any other preemie parents out there?

Hi all. Was just wondering if there were any other preemie parents here. I'm always needing advice and love to hear stories about the itty bitty darlings. I myself, have a 9 month old. He was born 3& 1/2 months earlier. Scariest thing I've ever dealt with! We were very blessed because he's doing wonderful. It's strange though, he looks and acts like a 5& 1/2 month old. Anyone else have a hard time adjusting to that? Also, we're having a tough time getting him to sleep through the night. I wonder how much he actually remembers from being in the NICU? Any thoughts or suggestions on that?

My youngest was a preemie baby...he was born at 24 weeks gestation and weighed in at 1lb 10 oz and it was the hardest thing to go through without a doubt...but he was a trooper...he made liars out fo the doctors on a regular basis by doing things he shouldnt have been doing (like being active for example..that little bug wiggled around setting off his alarms all the time..the nurses thought he was just amazing LOL)...it was really hard for me because we lived over 1 hr away from the hospital he was at and having two other young kids at home I wasnt able to go as often as I wanted to see him...

My son had been born 3 months premature at a time when most preemies that early did not survive. Fortunately, most his size make it in this day and age. Christopher is almost 23 and has never "caught up". Most preemies catch up by the age of 8 but Christopher is all of 5'4" and weighs a whopping 100 pounds! He looks and acts 14...he is still emotionally immature. He also has motor control issues, visual issues, a learning disability and ADHD (attention deficit hyperactivity disorder). Fortunately, none of this is obvious...all people notice is how tiny he is and that he can't be still for a second. He has been pulled over by police several times because they thought he was driving underage! Many preemies don't sleep well at night due to the fact that eating tires them out so they fall asleep before they are full. They wake up because they are hungry! Only time will cure that. If you need any specific info, if I can help you in anyway or you just want to chat about it, just add me to your friends so we can contact each other. Not only did I raise a tiny preemie but I am also an R.N. so know the medical side of preemies too.

My daughter had two preemie daughters. Her first was kept in NICU for quite a while before being released with heart and breathing monitors. They came to live with me so that there were 6 adults who could take shifts to watch her day and night for her first few months in case something were to happen. That was a scary time for all of us. They stopped my daughter's labor repeatedly as long as they could through her second pregnancy, and gave the baby steroid shots to develop her organs before birth. She was just as early, though did not seem to have as much trouble at that time so she was released earlier. My second granddaughter has some unexplained health problems though that causes her heart rate to rise, her oxygen levels to drop and her legs to turn blue. The doctors do not know what the cause is, although several heart and breathing problems have been ruled out.
