Hi simon1980! Welcome to myLot. I am also thinking that one. Most of the companies do prefer to choose people with pleasing personality. Perhaps, that is one of your best shot if you are going to apply in any company. However, there is also some instances wherein even though you're not a good-looking person, but you're quite intelligent and has a nice background and reputation, then you will be hired immediately.

I don't think that appearance is the most important above all to get a job. First thing is the qualifications. I think the first thing that a company see to an applicant is his qualifications and experience. Next thing is appearance.

As for the scenario you have given above, definitely, the company will choose the one with great appearance. However, I would like to say that there are two people with the same qualifications and experience. Everyone are unique. In one way or another, the company will first weigh their qualifications before considering their appearance. Not all successful people or woking in a company are good-looking. But of course when you apply to a job, you have to have a good appearance.
